3LAU to auction new song “WAVEFORM” through Christie’s (Inspired by the Wu-Tang Clan’s famous “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” auction)

A pioneer at the cross-section of music and blockchain technology, 3LAU (a.k.a Justin Blau) is ready to share his next project - “WAVEFORM”

“WAVEFORM” is a 1/1 song produced by 3LAU which will be auctioned as part of famed auction house Christie’s sale during this year’s Art Basel. The auction will be open for browsing from December 1st through 3rd and then the bidding starts on December 4th and ends on the 7th, all via NFT marketplace OpenSea which is working with Christie’s for the first time on this auction. This piece is powered by blockchain-based music investment platform Royal.

What makes “WAVEFORM” so unique and exciting is that 100% of the rights to this song are being transferred to the winning bidder. That is, the owner of “WAVEFORM” is granted full master recording & publishing rights, and is thus entitled to edit, remix, rename & release “WAVEFORM” in its current state or as later modified by the buyer.

Inspired by the Wu-Tang Clan’s famous “Once Upon A Time In Shaolin” auction that granted exclusive listening rights to the buyer - “WAVEFORM” takes that original concept and brings it to the blockchain by giving the buyer all rights to do whatever they want with the song. In addition, there will be an accompanying physical piece which is a 3D sculpture of the waveform of “WAVEFORM”.

“WAVEFORM” is the follow-up to 3LAU’s previous single, ‘Worst Case ft. CXLOE.’ That song is particularly notable because 3LAU gave away 50 percent of the song’s streaming revenue to 333 fans via Royal — a platform founded by 3LAU where fans can buy ownership in songs directly from their favorite artists and earn royalties with them.

‘Worst Case’ was released on Blume Records - the first not-for-profit dance record label. Launched in 2016 by 3LAU, to date, his charitable endeavors have raised over 450,000 dollars for causes like Pencils of Promise, ACLU, cancer research, and other philanthropic causes.
