5 Seconds of Summer rules the world
Having already taken the world by storm with the warm-up, million selling first single ‘She Looks So Perfect’, it’s now time for the main event... 5 Seconds of Summer release their much anticipated, self-titled debut album today through Capitol Records UK. The debut album peaked at #1 on iTunes in 69 different countries when released, going straight to #1 on iTunes in Belgium after all three instant grat tracks from the album went straight to the top spot on iTunes last week.
The band have recently been playing to huge, sold-out stadium crowds supporting 1D on their ‘Where We Are’ world tour, including three dates at Wembley Stadium and over in Ireland on Friday the band had 16 of the Top 30 singles on iTunes. 5 Seconds of Summer, have delivered a debut that is everything you could hope for from a band on the monumental trajectory that they have carved out for themselves. The album, which includes collaborations with The Madden Brothers of Good Charlotte, Alex Gaskarth of All Time low and John Feldmann (producer, All Time Low, Good Charlotte, Boys Like Girls), is packed with adrenaline-fuelled, lyrically mischievous hits, featuring the anthemic opener and global No.1 smash ‘She Looks So Perfect’ as well as the more recently announced guitar-pop pile driver ‘Don’t Stop’ - the video for which has amassed an astonishing 10.9 million views on YouTube and went straight in at Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart last week. Bringing the pace down a notch, show stoppers ‘Beside You’ and ‘Amnesia’ then highlight vocals and arrangements that have helped them win the hearts of millions of screaming fans across the world.
A truly astonishing social phenomenon, these guys have been causing chaos around the globe. In a little under eighteen months they have toured the globe amassing a phenomenal combined 12 million Twitter Followers, 3 million Facebook Likes and over 60 million YouTube views.
Their debut release, ‘She Looks So Perfect ’, charted at #1 in five countries going straight to the top of the Official Singles Chart here in the UK, #2 in the US Billboard Album chart (kept off only by the phenomenon that is Frozen) and #1 on iTunes in over 50 countries. The band have also recently sold-out headline tours in the UK, Australia and North America. In New York, during their first-ever run of headline tours, fans camped outside the venue for more than 48 hours to get a glimpse of the guys, landing them on the homepage of the New York Times website the following day; as their debut single continues to make waves around the world.
5SOS, as they are affectionately known by their ever burgeoning fan base, have also just completed a whirlwind promotional tour of Europe bringing traffic to a standstill in five countries over five days including Sweden, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. They have also sold-out their forthcoming May headline tour of Australia in a matter of minutes, where they have previously sold-out two national tours and crashing ticket sites in the process.
