A Colossal Weekend has unveiled the first artists for its 2027 edition. The initial announcement spans one of noise rock's most uncompromising institutions, British cult doom, Brazilian future-facing post-rock, and one of the internet's most elusive underground phenomena.

With these first four names, the festival already begins to outline the musical journey that will unfold across VEGA and Basement in May 2027.

"The first artists say a lot about what kind of festival A Colossal Weekend is. We're interested in artists who push the boundaries of their genres, but we're equally interested in the communities and scenes that emerge around them. That's why it makes perfect sense for us to present a programme where a cult act like Warning stands alongside newer and lesser-known artists such as Antropoceno and Sadness. It's in the meeting of these different expressions that something truly interesting happens."

Few bands have challenged the borderlands between noise rock, shoegaze and post-punk as relentlessly over the past two decades as American trio A Place To Bury Strangers. Led by Oliver Ackermann, the New York outfit has earned a reputation as one of alternative music's most intense live acts, where near-physical levels of feedback, light and volume merge into an all-consuming concert experience.

While A Place To Bury Strangers embodies noise and raw energy, British band Warning remains one of doom metal's most revered cult names. Earlier this year, Patrick Walker and the band released Rituals of Shame, ending a wait of almost two decades since its predecessor, Watching From A Distance. In the years between, the latter has attained near-mythological status among doom fans worldwide, inspiring countless bands to emulate its unique blend of melancholy, weight and vulnerability. With Rituals of Shame, Warning proves that it still stands strongest within the very field it helped define.

Arriving from Brazil, Antropoceno is one of the most exciting new names operating at the intersection of post-rock, avant-garde metal, psychedelia and South American musical traditions. The project incorporates everything from field recordings and ritualistic rhythms to vast cinematic compositions, creating a sound that feels equally ancient and futuristic. Antropoceno points firmly toward the future and represents a perfect example of a new generation of artists challenging preconceived notions of what heavy and experimental music can be.

The first announcement concludes with Sadness, the multifaceted project led by Damián Ojeda. Across more than a decade and a staggering number of releases, Sadness has built a dedicated global following through its deeply personal fusion of black metal, shoegaze, screamo and sadcore. Long surrounded by an almost cult-like fascination among fans of the contemporary underground, the project has only begun performing live in recent years, making opportunities to experience Sadness on stage exceptionally rare. At A Colossal Weekend 2027, audiences will have the chance to witness Sadness live in Denmark for the very first time.

Together, these four artists form the opening chapter of a programme that stretches from New York's feedback-drenched noise rock through British cult doom and onward to Brazilian future-post-rock and the deepest corners of the internet's musical underground.

About A Colossal Weekend 2027

A Colossal Weekend 2027 will present approximately 30 artists and takes place at VEGA and Basement in Copenhagen from 13-15 May 2027.

A Colossal Weekend is the Nordic region's leading festival for genre-defying and experimental heavy music. Since 2016, the festival has presented artists including Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Cult of Luna, Chat Pile, Anna von Hausswolff, Russian Circles and Deafheaven, alongside a broad spectrum of the international underground and tomorrow's most influential artists.

The festival is organised by VEGA in collaboration with Danish and international partners. A Colossal Weekend is entirely independent and non-profit, with all surplus revenue reinvested directly into artists, audiences and the development of new musical communities.
