A Colossal Weekend completes the 2024 lineup and releases day schedules

A COLOSSAL WEEKEND now announces the final acts for this year's festival and unveils day splits. For those following the Danish metal scene, it's been impossible to ignore Afsky and their incredibly dark yet beautiful black metal, as well as Konvent's uncompromising doom. Both acts are now added to the festival lineup and join Kairon; IRSE! (FIN), Kollapse (DK), Offermose/Last Oblivion (DK/SE), Lisen Pousette (SE), and Halvcirkel (DK) to complete this year's program.

Ole Luk’s Afsky truly broke through with the album 'Ofte Drømmer Jeg Mig Død' in 2020, where, among others, H.C. Andersen's, Sophus Clausen's, and Jeppe Aakjær's poems are interpreted and performed through depressive black metal. The melancholy is all-encompassing, just like the roaring melodic guitars, the insistent double pedal, and Luk's painful vocals. Afsky is also announced as one of this year's artists in residence.

Konvent debuted in 2020 with the album 'Puritan Masochism' and has not looked back since then. Besides signing with Napalm Records and touring most of the world, they have established themselves as one of Denmark's best examples of modern doom. Konvent is heavy and uncompromising blackened death doom, and they are pissed off – listen for yourself on the band's latest album 'Call Down The Sun' from 2022. The concert with Konvent during A Colossal Weekend will be one of very few opportunities to experience the band in 2024.

Finnish Kairon:IRSE! might be a new acquaintance for most, but still, their psychedelic space-rock seems familiar and 'easily accessible' in many ways. Conversely, they don't sound like anything else on this planet, and their (parallel) universe inspires endless journeys. Their mix of My Bloody Valentine, early Tame Impala, Greg Lake-era King Crimson, and classic Finnish unpredictability make this band something special. You might want to start your journey with the album 'Polysomn' from 2020.

Kollapse is soon ready with a follow-up to 'SULT' from 2021, and the tracks 'DØD' and 'Autofagia' from the upcoming album 'AR' are already out. The North Jutland trio seems to pick up where they left off, but their intense sludge and noise-metal appear more relevant and intense than before.

Danish Offermose plays atmospheric darkwave, where the deepest tones and darkest synth take center stage. Offermose joins forces with Swedish Last Oblivion during A Colossal Weekend to perform the work 'Aural Storm' as an immersive sound experience.

Halvcirkel is a string ensemble that, over eight years, has reimagined, experimented, and challenged the stereotypical image of a classical string ensemble. For the concert at Vega, Half Circle will perform music from the upcoming album 'Vida,' where the trio debuts as composers. As part of the quartet's residency, Half Circle will also perform an immersive concert during A Colossal Weekend.

The final addition to the program is the work SPIRIT/US, performed by the dancer and choreographer Lisen Pousette (SE). SPIRIT/US is a location-specific piece designed specifically for A Colossal Weekend, where Lisen explores the resonance and response of the body and voice with and around the audience.

A COLOSSAL WEEKEND 2024 is the eighth edition and this year presents 30 acts from both home and abroad. It takes place over three days between May 16th and 18th, once again with the festival centered around the venue VEGA in Vesterbro, Copenhagen. The organizers are looking forward to presenting various residencies with new, different, and surprising concert formats, including the so-called immersive concerts, which technically consist of an immersive sound setup of no less than eighteen speakers, configured depending on the act on stage.

About A COLOSSAL WEEKEND:

With its focus on dark, heavy, and experimental rock music, the Copenhagen-based festival A COLOSSAL WEEKEND has been offering a significant alternative in the Danish festival landscape since its inception in 2016. Through its passionate curation, the festival has become an integral part of the scene and genres it represents, whether it’s post-rock, noise, sludge or black metal. Through the years, the festival has presented key acts such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Anna Von Hausswolff, Cult of Luna and Russian Circles.

A COLOSSAL WEEKEND is a collaboration between well renowned venue VEGA in Copenhagen and the booking agency Colossal as they both discovered a common goal and ambition in presenting visionary acts of high quality within genres that many might not be too familiar with. Genres such as post-rock, post-metal, math, doom, sludge and black metal are solid ingredients in the program, however detours throughout other genres such jazz, techno and neo classical can also be expected. The concept of the festival is quite simple; to be a facilitated gathering place for music nerds, metalheads and curious souls with a soft spot for dark, experimental and atmospheric music.

With A COLOSSAL WEEKEND, the organizers themselves state that they are trying to create an alternative to other festivals, including the more genre-specific ones. "Our goal is to create a festival and curate a program you won't find elsewhere. We aim to present and explore the diversity that exists when you dig a little deeper and venture into the corners. It's not the headliners that shape the program, but everything you don't know, which ties it all together."

The line-up is built up around a handful of well-known acts who represent specific tendencies and sounds within their domain, accompanied by a substantial amount of strictly curated underground acts, who altogether underlines, challenges and explores the infinite borderlands of alternative gloomy music. The festival has so far been a destination for music enthusiasts from all over the world. 40 % of the audience has traveled to Copenhagen and A COLOSSAL WEEKEND from countries abroad and has co-created memorable experiences among like-minded people.

A Colossal Weekend is realized with funding and support from the Copenhagen Municipality, Basement, Liveurope, Tuborg og Stauning Danish Whiskey.
