'A Step Outside' Rosemary & Garlic out Friday June 28th, now already downloable
On June 28th, Dutch dream-folk artist Anne van den Hoogen (aka Rosemary & Garlic) will release A Step Outside, a collection of songs recorded live at the St Pauli Kirche in Hamburg during Reeperbahn 2018 and at Paradiso Amsterdam. Fans can already download the EP on Noisetrade for free.
NBHAP.com mentioned that the show of Rosemary & Garlic at the St. Pauli Kirche and added it to their Ten Most Memorable Performances of Reeperbahn Festival: "In a fairy-like performance van den Hoogen and her band turn these tender songs into mind-blowing cinematic experiences that silenced an entire audience right before bursting out into a frenetic applause."
Adding a live chapter to her repertoire, A Step Outside contains songs from The Kingfisher EP and the self-titled debut album Rosemary & Garlic. The band recorded their shows at Reeperbahn Festival and Paradiso. Because of the great acoustics of both venues, Rosemary & Garlic decided to release the songs on a live EP.
“I have always had a love for live songs, although they seem quite rare these days on radio or streaming services. A live version of a song can own the magic of the connection between the artists and the audience. I love the sound of a hall or room in which a lot of people are trying to keep quiet and the artist sometimes giggles or tells a bad joke... My favorite live album is Miles of Ailes (1974) by Joni Mitchell,” says van den Hoogen.
Half of the songs on A Step Outside were recorded in the St. Pauli Kirche in Hamburg during Reeperbahn Festival, the other songs in Paradiso, Amsterdam.
