Active Child is Back After 5 Year Hiatus with Luminous New Single: Coming Up

After a 5-year hiatus, the critically-acclaimed multi-talented singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, and producer Patrick Grossi, better known as ACTIVE CHILD, returns with a luminous new single, “Coming Up." Co-produced with Alex Goose (Kali Uchis, Childish Gambino, Vince Staples), “Coming Up” marks a sonic shift for Active Child. Moving beyond pure experimentation, Active Child embraces introspective songcraft, layering shimmering guitar tones with his unmistakable falsetto. The result is a sound both intimate and transcendent.

ACTIVE CHILD’s creative resurgence began with an instrumental rediscovery: his D’Angelico acoustic guitar, a treasured family heirloom once played by his great-grandfather. Picking up the instrument again sparked not just nostalgia, but a deeper shift—an urge to create music that feels timeless, rooted in songcraft, and guided by love and personal reflection.

“The descending guitar structure naturally shaped the lyrics and theme toward self-reflection,” notes Active Child. “‘Coming Up’ is about sorting out who I am—my identity as an adult, a father, and a husband—and trying to reconcile that with what can sometimes feel like a self-absorbed journey as an artist. In many ways, it encapsulates where I am now in my life and sets the tone for what’s coming next for me musically: a search for balance between my creative path and my role as a parent and partner.”
