'Addictions' - New Music Release

Brisbane/Meanjin's rock trio Reckless Coast, renowned for their fusion of alt-adrenaline with retro-flair, return in the wake of their debut EP with their latest release 'Addictions' — a fervent single that channels a heavier, borderline ominous character, that industrialises their core sonic persona.

Garage‐gritted guitar and guttural bass lay a foundation of subtle animosity and tension, that builds into a momentous chorus of searing vocals with stadium hooks. The driving rhythm beneath groove‐laden riffs is archetypal Reckless Coast, but fine‐tuned to support the track’s foreboding atmospherics. Recorded locally at Hunting Ground Studios, the track was co-produced by Cody McWaters (The Chats, Felony, King Stingray) and Jono Frowd.

'Addictions' explores the psychological toll of romantic dependency, told from the perspective of someone jaded by mislead relationships. Beneath its ardency lies a deeper reflection on self‐awareness and emotional readiness.

Frontman and songwriter Jaeden Ogston talks about the inspiration of 'Addictions':

“Some people can’t stand the thought of being alone, rushing from one relationship to the next without healing or self‐reflection, which fuels an almost self‐fulfilling prophecy. I wrote ‘Addictions’ after a three‐year relationship ended, and I caught myself looking for something new at a time when I wasn’t emotionally ready.”

Addictions arrives after a landmark year for Reckless Coast — supporting DICE on their world tour, The Southern River Band on all QLD dates for the renowned Stan Qualen tour, plus The Delta Riggs and Press Club at Crusher Fest. In the last 6 months alone, they’ve appeared alongside Frenzal Rhomb at ‘Where We Belong Festival’, and joined the Brisbane line‐up for the debut Australian tour of AshenMoon, a band co‐founded by Garry Beers of INXS.

Their 2024 debut EP 'Naked & Famous' garnered national attention from Triple J, Music Feeds, The AU Review and Pedestrian, alongside international features from Too Much Love Mag (USA), The Bucket Playlist (Switzerland), York Calling (UK), and Zona Emergente (Mexico). Additionally, during this time, their 2023 release 'Gossip' was also highlighted by Marshall Amplification as part of the 'Shred Sunday' series.
