Alban releases debut album "To Break Your Heart"

Alban Sarens (b. 1989) is a saxophonist, pianist and composer from Antwerp. For years, he has moved with remarkable ease between musical worlds and disciplines. As a musician, arranger and trusted sidekick, he has collaborated with artists such as Stef Kamil Carlens, Guido Belcanto, Slow Pilot, Ellen Schoenaerts, Portland, Sir Yes Sir, Equal Idiots, Kids With Buns, Roosbeef and Het Zesde Metaal. Whether in the studio or on stage, Alban is always searching for that one sound capable of setting something unspeakable in motion.

In 2022, his life came to a sudden halt when the mother of his two daughters took her own life. What followed was a period of grief, reorientation and profound inner change. Alban made a radical decision: he resigned from his position as artistic coordinator at Trix and returned to his essence: music.

Over the course of three intense years marked by mourning, sorrow and a search for the meaning of love, he worked in silence on what has now become his debut album “To Break Your Heart”. The record is a deeply affecting instrumental exploration of loss, love and the strength found in vulnerability.

By returning to his core as a musician, Alban found a way to grasp what words could not express. His saxophone became his voice, translating emotions and thoughts into compositions that carry both weight and lightness.

To Break Your Heart” is not about despair, but about what can grow from it. It is a sonic landscape in which grief transforms into growth, and where music points the way forward. “There’s no truth, there's only the path we took.”
