Album out now: Helene Fischer "Rausch"

With her new album “Rausch”, Helene Fisher presents her most personal and complex work to date. The pop icon made it abundantly clear with first single “Vamos A Marte” (let's go to Mars), recorded together with Latin American superstar Luis Fonsi: Helene is back! More sensual, more combative, and more exciting than ever before, the singer, songwriter and entertainer presents an album for the soul and the senses.

The songs on her eighth studio album reflect the path she has travelled to date, with its many facets and successes, but also show in all their colourful diversity how much love, heart and passion she puts into her creative work. Album opener “Volle Kraft voraus” (full steam ahead) is an electrifying power anthem that can be taken as a motto for life. On it, Helene Fischer talks about change and life’s upheavals – and the step forward, past former boundaries and into change, freedom and, ultimately, happiness: “Volle Kraft voraus / Zurück aufs offene Meer hinaus” (full steam ahead / back out on the open sea).

Love is also a central theme on Helene’s latest album, but the singer also demonstrates a darker side, as on the song “Blitz”, which tells of the pain of a break-up, but also of the wonderful feeling of falling in love all over again. The track “Luftballon” (balloon) is about mourning loved ones who have left you. Nor does Helene Fischer shy away from life’s conflicts, and the injuries they inflict (“Wunden” (wounds)). True to life, authentic, and remaining at all times a human being, a woman, an artist through and through – Helene Fischer achieves an impressive balance between shadow and light in her songs, so that as a listener you always take with you that strength and confidence that are essential to looking ahead with hope. An album brimming with atmosphere, with quieter moments that invite reflection, and songs that are like a shot of pure adrenaline!

The third single, “Null auf 100” (zero to sixty), released to coincide with the album launch, is a gripping, euphoric song, like a pop-dance firework! Helene Fischer sings about the unifying feeling of setting off together, right now in this moment, experiencing adventures and celebrating life to the full, in all its colours, shapes and places, whether it’s a romantic relationship, friendship or family.

The titular song “Rausch” (intoxication) is sensual, thrilling and seductive: “Ich fühl mich wie im Rausch / ein Sturm auf meiner Haut / Du musst nichts sagen / was Du willst, will ich auch” (I feel intoxicated / a storm upon my skin / You don’t have to say a word / what you want, I want too) sings Helene Fischer, just as with “Vamos A Marte” creating a hypnotic anthem that gets right under your skin. It’s about letting go and trusting yourself. But intoxication is so much more than just a feeling... As it happens, the collaboration with Luis Fonsi took Helene Fischer straight to number 2 in the official German charts, making it the highest single chart entry in her career! The song is undoubtedly one of the best and most exciting of her career. Her performance is passionate, physical, intense, her voice impressive and her charisma overwhelming.

The diverse range of songs, styles and stories on the new album demonstrates just what a versatile and extraordinary artist she is: Helene Fischer’s creative output is characterised by her passion and the will to always go to her limits and beyond: She lures us onto the dance floor, moves us with haunting ballads, sings about life, the easy and the difficult moments, and makes space for her incredible voice, with its intense but also vulnerable, raw sound. Helene Fischer co-wrote and composed many of the new songs. She’s not looking back, instead she’s reinventing herself while remaining true to who she is. Helene always makes a point of avoiding stagnation, opting instead to introduce new influences and create modern pop: Whether it’s the fiery Latin pop elements in “Vamos A Marte”, or the trip-hop rhythms of “Spiele” (games), Helene Fischer presents songs for those unforgettable nights where we dance all night long, something we crave so deeply now in autumn 2021. The highlight, the dramatically staged finale of the album, is the song “Nichts auf der Welt” (nothing in the world), underpinned by strings and atmospherically charged, the song once again gives her voice the space it deserves to unfold to its full glory. “Kommt ein Sturm / spann deine Segel” (if a storm comes / tighten your sails) sings Helene, and you almost believe you can feel her heartbeat. A huge moment, a great closing song that rounds off the album to impressive effect.
