Alice Barlow Releases New Song "In A Vice"

Today, we are pleased to share the beautiful song “In A Vice” by South-east London based songwriter and producer Alice Barlow.

An understated but emotionally resonant track, “In A Vice” sees Alice deliver confessional lyrics over richly layered guitar tones. “In A Vice” was originally written and recorded by Barlow over a decade ago but she recently headed back into the studio to re-record the vocals ahead of it receiving its full digital release.

Speaking of “In A Vice,” Barlow says: “I made this song over ten years ago in one of the old music computer rooms at my Uni. I was experimenting with production using just a mic, my guitar and the computer’s in-built synth sounds. The song is about a love that isn’t working and the pain of slowly realising it. It was inspired by a conversation I had with a good friend in a tough relationship, and they were feelings I could relate to - even more so as time has passed. I uploaded it to SoundCloud without thinking much of it, but it seemed to resonate with a lot of people online, and probably was the catalyst to me being a performing musician in London, so it’s nice that the song is now getting a proper release.”

Alongside the track comes a Grand Theft Auto-inspired video made by Sam Bailey that is a call back to Barlow’s original artwork for the song. Barlow adds: “Bailey fleshed out the idea of setting the video in the video game, but with the juxtaposition of exploring nature and calm landscapes as opposed to the madness of the game. To me it’s super nostalgic as I played this game growing up, and it reflects the nostalgia of the song to me in many ways.”
