And They Spoke In Anthems releases new EP ".HERE"

Rewind for a moment. And They Spoke in Anthems released "STILL." in February 2024. released, its now third album and by far its most personal throw.

Frontman Arne Leurentop wrote the songs while living with his family in New Zealand. He wrote about the sudden death of his two best friends. The record became a musical tribute to Stijn and Roeland, in an attempt to continue to feel their presence. After a year and a half, Arne returned home. He recorded all the songs he had written on the other side of the world in Belgium with bassist Tim Vandenbergh and drummer Karel De Backer. Ten songs from that recording session formed an organic whole and together they formed the third And They Spoke In Anthems album, named "STILL."

Exactly one year after the release of "STILL." there is now ".HERE", an EP featuring the four remaining songs from that same recording session. Due to lack of space on the full album, they now form their own entity. "STILL." and ".HERE" each have their own identity, but are unmistakably related. Both in sound, theme and design, the EP seems like the LP's little sister. They cannot live without each other. The story of "STILL." is only told after the last note of ".HERE".

With And They Spoke in Anthems, singer-songwriter Arne Leurentop continues to take his time crafting and releasing music. Five years passed between the critically acclaimed debut "JUNE" (2014) and "MONEY TIME" (2019). The third album, "STILL." (2024), also arrived after a five-year pause. There’s no rush. Depth, introspection, and ingenuity are at the core.

With "STILL.", Arne delivers his most personal record yet. His world was profoundly shaken when his two best friends passed away suddenly, just weeks apart. In an attempt to process this loss, he began writing, seeking to translate his emotions into music. It became a search for the essence and foundations of our existence, with the understanding that music can offer solace. The result sounds like an album Neil Finn might have produced for Andy Shauf after listening to "Sky Blue Sky" by Wilco and "Darling Arithmetic" by Villagers.

Exactly one year after the release of "STILL."., there’s now ".HERE", an EP featuring four tracks left over from the same recording session. The EP will be released on January 29, 2025 during "de Week van de Belgische muziek".

And They Spoke in Anthems performs live both solo and with a full band. In the latter setup, Arne Leurentop (vocals, guitar, organ) is joined by Jan Dhaene (Ansatz Der Machine) on drums, Maarten Flamand (The Antler King, Flat Earth Society) on guitar, and newest member Tim Vandenbergh (The Colorist Orchestra, SunSunSun) on bass.
