When young vocalist Angie Brown and three producers under the name of Bizarre Inc stepped into the studio for a session in 1992, little did they know the result would be smash hit ‘I’m Gonna Get You’. Just a few months after release, the instantly recognizable dance classic peaked at #3 in the UK singles chart, later to be certified silver by the British Phonographic Industry for sales of more than 200,000 copies. The track also reached #1 on the Billboard Dance Clubs Songs chart in the US.

Angie creatively ad-libbed the opening phrase — “Dah dup dup bedoo dah hup” — that gave the track its earworm appeal, and as lead vocalist, sang lyrics sampled from Jocelyn Brown’s ‘Love's Gonna Get You’. However, despite her crucial contribution to the record and its success, Angie did not reap the same financial benefits as the producers of the track. With a one-off session fee and a smaller royalty split than the producers, Angie’s formal recognition on the track extended little further than being named as a featured artist.

Last week, Angie reclaimed her voice and her place on the dance music map, releasing her own spin on the track that boasts a fresh performance and production, without losing the energy, enthusiasm and charisma of the original. Angie’s son, Cuba, features as her “hype man”, performing the iconic opening line, ‘Yo DJ Pump This Party’. Between mother and son, they both get the party rockin’ and Angie’s version of ‘I’m Gonna Get You’ is set to be a dance floor-filler and epic hit, all over again!
