Pestilence to headline the first edition of Arnhem Deathfest on October 25 at Willemeen

On Saturday, October 25, 2025, the inaugural Arnhem Deathfest will kick off at Willemeen in Arnhem — a new festival dedicated entirely to the Dutch death metal scene. No gimmicks, no frills, no compromises: just pure, unadulterated death metal from home soil.

The legendary band Pestilence has been announced as the headliner. Known for their revolutionary blend of technical precision and brutal power, Pestilence is regarded as a true pioneer of the genre. Classic albums like Consuming Impulse (1989), Testimony of the Ancients (1991), and Spheres (1993) made a worldwide impact and set the blueprint for generations of metal bands. At Arnhem Deathfest, Pestilence will perform not only their classics but also — for the first time live — material from their upcoming album. A unique show and a first for Dutch fans.

Also appearing is Massive Assault from Hoogeveen. This band from Drenthe is known for their relentless blend of old-school death metal, crust, and d-beat. Their latest album Metal of Death (2024) received critical acclaim and solidifies their position as heavyweights in the national metal scene. Live, they deliver a sonic storm of uncompromising aggression.Additionally, there will be a rare performance by the brutal death metal act Braincasket. This band only plays sporadically in the Netherlands and promises a devastating live experience that leaves a lasting impact.

A special addition to the lineup is Groningen’s Sad Whispering, who will be presenting their new EP Strategy of Tension during the festival. The release party marks an important moment for this cult band, which has held a unique place in the Dutch death/doom scene for decades with their melancholic and atmospheric approach to the genre.

Last but not least, local heroes Bloodmoon will represent the raw energy of the Gelderland scene. This Arnhem-based death metal band delivers a hometown show packed with crushing riffs and relentless intensity.

Arnhem Deathfest is a tribute to the richness and quality of the Dutch death metal scene. At a time when many festivals focus on international headliners, Arnhem Deathfest consciously highlights what the Netherlands has to offer. And that is plenty — from established names to rising underground talents.
