Australian Rock Supergroup The Nerve Announce International Release of “Audiodacity”

Australian Rock supergroup The Nerve set tongues wagging and stages alight when they stormed up and down Australia almost a decade ago to packed rooms and raucous crowds.

Now the project from Ezekiel Ox (Full Scale, Mammal, Over-Reactor), Lucius Borich (COG, Floating Me), Davarj Thomas (Pre-Shrunk) and guitar virtuoso Glenn Proudfoot will see their debut album Audiodacity receive an international release for the first time, through Bird’s Robe Records.

In the band’s own words: "It is 9 songs. Every song has a guitar solo. Some have two. The album was recorded on Skype using file sharing clouds, because the band were living in Melbourne, Prague and Sydney when the idea formed, and it made sense to develop what Reggie Bowman describes as a "digitally organic" record. Glenn shreds, Ezekiel rages and preens, Davarj fills the space, Lucius puts in where it should be and Reggie makes it all sit and big. Getting this group into the same room was a labour of love. The results speak for themselves: if you obey the riff, and live for the groove, this album is for you."

The story of The Nerve started many years ago when Ezekiel Ox was in Full Scale, Lucius Borich was in COG and Preshrunk had only just broken up. One night in a Melbourne venue, young shredder Glenn Proudfoot spotted Ezekiel fronting Full Scale and immediately knew that one day they would be in a band together. Glenn pursued Ezekiel via skype and email which led to The Nerve’s first writing session in St Kilda in 2010.

These tracks were the start of the relationship but were never used. Glenn then went back to reside in Europe and wrote the monstrous riffs that are littered throughout the album Audiodacity.

Time to find a drummer. As soon as Ezekiel heard the riffs, he knew that Lucius Borich was the only drummer for the job. Lucius was immediately inspired and started recording drum tracks from his studio in Sydney, Keysound Studios. Work continued on the album with Peter “Reggie” Bowman at Screamlouder Studios in Melbourne. The guys wrote 24 songs in 2 months with Glenn in between Prague and Melbourne, Lucius in Sydney and the rest of the guys in Melbourne. Skype and large file sharing was the method as each song was crafted. Still in need of a bass player, Davarj Thomas was introduced to the band by Reggie and The Nerve was born.

In February 2013 it was time to test the songs, and remarkably the band met for the first time 4 days before their first gig, and the synergy and chemistry was immediately there. The band had released their first track Witness (mixed and mastered by Karnivool producer Forrester Savell) onto streaming services and there was a huge response: their first show was played to a packed, steaming and ecstatic crowd at the iconic Espy Front bar in Melbourne.

Later developments saw them join Sydney label Bird’s Robe for an Australian release and tour. The guys have since reunited with their iconic bands but we still have this excellent hard rock record to listen to.

Of course, anyone who saw them live remembers them as one of the best live rock shows in town. This album is a blistering representation of what made this band so great.

At the time, we were in a post-COG, post-Mammal era, Zeke and Lucius had a myriad of other excellent projects like Over-Reactor and FloatingMe and they each carried a dedicated audience with them. When they came together for this hard rock supergroup with the incredible musicianship of Davarj and Glenn, there was truly a sense of excitement and optimism about the sparks soon to fly. And fly they did!

The guys have since reunited with their iconic bands but we still have this excellent hard rock record to listen to.
