Avalanche Party Release New Single ‘Nureyev Said It Best’

Today Yorkshire feral garage-punk band Avalanche Party release their new single ‘Nureyev Said It Best’. The track is a frenzied, bouncing, sonic hallucination of the famed dancer Rudolf Nureyev appearing on the streets of Middlesbrough. Listen to ‘Nureyev Said It Best’ here. Watch the video here.

Vocalist and guitarist Jordan Ray comments on the single: “The lyrics were written on a walk home from our studio through the centre of Middlesbrough between the hours of 2am and 5am, a classically electric time of night. Lot of people out there on the hunt. It’s Tarkovsky’s zone honed by years of the struggle. Instinct. No questions. It’s a strong walking tempo so the lyrics came easily, just had to look around. It's a true story. You are where your brain thinks you are so it also happened in Berlin, Mad Max, Bladerunner and Skid Row.

We built our own rehearsal room in the basement of a venue called Basecamp in Middlesbrough. Everything from concreting the floors to painting to tinfoil wallpaper and plasterboarding. Me and Jos did a lot of sessions in there with me on drums and him on bass working through ideas and building them up, this one came out of one of those nights. It’s a live smash alright”.

Guitarist and backing vocalist Jared Thorpe adds: “Avalanche Party’s writing process is never the same, this song was the victory dance, a confirmation that nothing matters”.

Avalanche Party recently announced their signing to AMK, Kartel Music Group’s alternative music imprint alongside previous single ‘Collateral Damage’. The track has seen support from Radio X, BBC Introducing, BBC Radio Newcastle plus more.

Both ‘Nureyev Said It Best’ and ‘Collateral Damage’ were produced by Dave Catching and recorded at the hallowed Rancho De La Luna studio in California’s Joshua Tree, whose previous clientele include the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age, Arctic Monkeys, Amyl & The Sniffers, Iggy Pop, PJ Harvey, Peaches and Foo Fighters. This batch of new music from Avalanche Party is a bold statement of intent for what’s to come throughout the rest of 2024.

Avalanche Party are a garage-punk rock and roll band from the bleak yet beautiful North Yorkshire Moors. They released their long awaited and critically acclaimed debut album ’24 Carat Diamond Trephine’ in 2019, which was supported by Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens & Tom Robinson at BBC 6Music, Jack Saunders at BBC Radio 1, John Kennedy at Radio X, BBC Introducing, Vic Galloway at BBC Scotland and Kevin Cole & Cheryl Waters at legendary American station KEXP. The band recorded live sessions for BBC 6 Music and KEXP, and were featured in the NME 100. PRS Foundation also presented the band with their Momentum Fund Award.

Shortly after the release of their debut album the Earth went on a great pause and all touring was cancelled. Avalanche Party immediately turned their attention to writing their next work. Using the enforced spare time they built a studio in a dusty basement underneath a venue in Middlesbrough. The band wrote, practised, filmed live sessions, recorded demos and handmade merch day and night in their new home. It was the most creative and fruitful period in the band’s life and forged much of their new material.

The great flood of Middlesbrough in September 2022 wreaked havoc on the band’s new base. Equipment was saved, studio space was not. Austin, Texas allies ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead took Avalanche Party on a hell ride across Europe playing in twelve countries. From Munich to Madrid, Copenhagen to Cologne, Basel to Berlin Avalanche Party played their new material every night, each gig seeing each song getting leaner and stronger.

More recently, Avalanche Party have just wrapped up a European headline run and a standout performance at Hull’s Humber Street Sesh and Paris’s Supersonic. Further live shows will be announced soon.
