Barry Hay & The Flying V Formation Out on June 24

Four years after Barry Hay (leader of the legendary Dutch rock band Golden Earring) decided to start a new project, it will arrive on June 24: the debut album of his Flying V Formation. You could say that it took a long time, but nothing is further from the truth when you know that this formation consists of DeWolff guitarist Pablo van de Poel and successful young musicians Jan Rooymans, Daim Rich and Huub van Loon. Some songs were already completed and have been played live many times since 2012. The desire to incorporate these new compositions have existed for some time, but it was not easy to reconcile all agendas. In the summer of 2015, the moment had finally arrived. With Di-rect bassist Bas van Wageningen as co-producer Barry Hay's Flying V Formation started recording in the Basement Studio in The Hague.

Led by Barry Hay, the Flying V Formation perfectly captures the raw live energy in a coherent and unadulterated rock & roll album. Just listen to the opening track Wait a Minute, or to the delicious lingering I'm Not Drowning (a cover of an unknown acoustic song by Steve Winwood) or pure rock tracks such as The Machine and Turn Around and Razorblade sharp. But there are also calm moments on the album in the form of a cover of the Rickie Lee Jones song Circle In The Sand and the beautifully contemplative, almost six minutes long capstone Beautiful Life. To underline once again that Barry Hay's Flying V Formation is a real live band the eight-track album contains, as a bonus, two live tracks: Firewater (known in the original by Micheal Smotherman) and Tom Waits cover Going Out West.
