bbreathrr (Young Prisms Side Project) Release New Single, "candytrip," via Fire Talk
bbreathrr is the side-project of Young Prism’s Giovanni Betteo and Stefanie Hodapp. Late last year, bbreathrr unearthed their beloved blog-era EP, Fourteen, bringing the decade-old Soundcloud-only release for widespread digital distribution via Fire Talk Records. Today, bbreathrr return with their new single, “candytrip.” Lush and saccharine, “candytrip” is a dreampop anthem, with woozy guitars that swagger and saunter alongside an ever-sweet melody. “Promise till we die,” Hodapp sings, floating atop layers of filtered reverb, “until you meet me down by the fire.” The instrumentation is bright, glittering, and lands somewhere between trip-pop and fuzzed-out indie rock.

Young Prisms was formed in San Francisco in the late 2000s by life-long friends Matt Allen and Giovanni Betteo alongside Stefanie Hodapp and Brooklyn- based drummer Jordan Silbert. The group plays a fiercely loud and sneakily melodic brand of shoegaze that also traces along the edges of noise pop scrappiness and neo-psych dreaminess. In late 2009, Mexican Summer put out a self-titled 12” EP by the band, which led to a batch of split 7" singles in 2010 with Small Black (on Big Love Records from Japan), Weekend (on Transparent from the U.K.), and Mathemagic (on Atelier Ciseaux from France). In 2010 Young Prisms released their debut album 'Friends for Now' on Kanine Records, which was followed by second full-length 'In Between' in 2012. Ten years after releasing their debut LP and after an extended hiatus, Young Prisms returned in 2022 with new material, Drifter, released on Fire Talk.
