Becoming the Lion new Ep "Ghosts of A Fallen Soldier"

Midwestern post-metal/rock outfit Becoming the Lion started in 2010 with one man's dream, a self-recorded instrumental experiment with heavy riffs and rhythmic melodies. Now composer, guitarist, and vocalist Ross Blomgren has re-imagined the original eight tracks, adding vocals and many other facets with the help of guitarist/vocalist Dan Mazur and drummer Dennis Paterkiewicz. Taking influence from progressive metal and post-hardcore bands like Deftones, Thrice, and Oceansize, Becoming the Lion adds a unique twist to this crowded style.

Says Blomgren,

Ghosts of a Fallen Soldier at its heart is about a man’s struggle to come home after burning his relationships to the ground. This is romanticized using the fog of war to portray this internal battle in a similar light to one of physical tragedies such as war. The beginning of “Rally at the Battlefront” enters on a cold and dark front of self-realization, while the ending of “Fading Fast” is a plea for redemption. This EP is meant to follow this man’s journey with no clear cut ending for resolution. Influences for this album range from Post-Rock/Post-Metal elements for the instruments (Cloudkicker, God is an Astronaut, Russian Circles) with the vocals taking root somewhere between Deftones and Oceansize.

With this December 2018 re-release, Becoming the Lion has fulfilled the artistic potential that was touched upon in 2010. Look forward to more from this up-and-coming project in the new year.
