Belgian figure skating champion turns into black swan in Roscoe's video for 'Fresh Start'
Roscoe teamed up with the young Belgian director Leonardo Van Dijl to make a video for their single ‘Fresh Start’. Van Dijl won ‘best experimental short’ at Outfest Festival in Los Angeles for his short feature ‘Get Ripped’ and directed the video for ‘Princes’ by Belgian biggest recent success story Oscar & The Wolf.
Van Dijl, together with Belgian figure skating champion Jorik Hendricks and his sister, junior champion Loena Hendrickx, once again delivers a weird, but strangely graceful video.
“The graceful movements in figure skating really fitted the subtlety and melody of the song”, says Van Dijl, “I was interested in creating some sort of ‘Black Swan’ type story linked to the theme of the song; making a fresh start in the confinement of professional sports. Is it possible or does it eat you up?”
The director clearly supports the latter as his main character gets possessed. “I love the dichotomy. The pitch black story is set against a breezy song of hope.” By using grainy low res VHS style visuals the dichotomy becomes all the more clear.
