Belgian-Japanese electronic duo Aili return with a new single, “Shindara”, a dance floor rêverie.

Originally composed for the acclaimed Belgian TV series Drift (ranked #1 on Streamz), Shindara sees vocalist and producer Aili Maruyama and multi-instrumentalist Orson Wouters continue to push the boundaries of club music — fusing existential philosophy with atmospheric electronica and acid-tinged techno.

The track eases us in with a soaring, almost meditative intro — Maruyama’s voice glitching, echoing, and misfiring over a bed of numinous ambient textures — before drums and acidic synths drag us back to the dark of the dance floor. It’s an emotional and sonic descent that reflects the central theme of the song.

“The lyrics [in Japanese] are essentially about ‘when I die, where do I go?’” says Maruyama. “And I just don’t know, because I don’t really have a religion to fall back on. But still, it’s something I often think about."

“Shindara has this long, peaceful intro that feels like it’s taking you somewhere uplifting — but it was fun to twist that idea and drop it into a huge club track. It’s like solving a fun puzzle.”

— Aili Maruyama

Shindara is the latest in a series of bold, genre-blurring singles from Aili, and follows the critically praised Damewadame — a techno anthem addressing consent and club culture. You can catch them performing their new music live across Europe this summer (dates below).
