Big'n releases End Comes Too Soon

Big’n, the iconic Chicago-based noise rock band formed in 1990, releases today End Comes Too Soon, their third album — and their first in 28 years. The lineup includes vocalist William Akins, guitarist Todd Johnson, bassist Fred Popolo, and drummer Brian Wnukowski.

After releasing a stellar debut album in 1994, a split single with Shellac in 1995 followed by their sophomore and signature effort Discipline Through Sound in 1996 on Skingraft Records, the band became inactive for some years. They returned in 2010 with a compilation os singles and an EP, and they have since released two records : The EP Knife of Sin in 2018 and DTS 25, an extended reissue of their second album in 2022. Both were recorded by the late, great Steve Albini.

The new album, End Comes Too Soon, features the band's trademark sound at its peak, featuring powerful drumming, intricate bass lines, clangorous guitars and Akins' distinctive vocals. It was recorded by Shane Hochstetler at Electrical Audio in two separate sessions.

Unintentionally — yet cleverly — Side A ended up being recorded in Studio A, and Side B in Studio B. Also completely unintentional is the album title : tragically, on May 7, 2024, Steve Albini suddenly passed away of a heart attack. Naturally, Bigʼn were shocked and devastated. End Comes Too Soonʼs title comes from a lyric, and is unrelated to Albini; still, the album became a roundabout love letter to the man and his legacy.
