Bobby Bazini Releases New Album ‘’Seul au cinéma”, Out Now

Today, Canadian singer-songwriter Bobby Bazini releases "Seul au cinema”, his long-awaited first full-length album entirely in French. Produced by Bobby Bazini and released under exclusive license to Spectra Music, the album arrives alongside the focus track 'Février et le mauve', an introspective piece exploring themes of self-identity.

Bobby shared on the song “I was going through a period of uncertainty and reflection, as the French-language album project wasn’t making much progress. Connor and I decided to put everything on pause so I could focus on the Pearl tour. I made the decision to go back to school and immerse myself in reading French literature and poetry. One day, when I saw my real name — Bobby Bazinet — on my student ID card, it hit me. I felt like I didn’t recognize that person. For fifteen years, everyone had been calling me Bazini, to the point where I had almost forgotten my own name! “Février et le mauve” is a song about identity. I wrote it after a solitary walk during the blue hour one February evening.”

About ‘’Seul au cinéma’’

For fifteen years, Bobby Bazini hesitated to sing in French. The desire was there, of course, but for years he postponed the project, unsure of how to approach it, filled with doubts, and wondering whether his audience would follow him on that path. In 2022, he finally began working on a French-language album with Connor Seidel, but the project was temporarily put on hold. During his “Pearl” tour, he went back to school and found the inspiration for ‘’Seul au cinéma’’ during a free afternoon spent wandering through a multiplex cinema. The album is built around the concept of nine theaters, nine songs—each one exploring a facet of his search for identity and solitude.

Musically, Bobby Bazini and Connor Seidel drew inspiration from French-language albums like ‘’La tête en gigue’’ (Jim et Bertrand) and ‘’Rêver mieux’’ (Daniel Bélanger). They opted for a stripped-down approach, blending acoustic guitars with modern textures through the use of synthesizers and sampling, going so far as to incorporate sounds recorded in movie theaters to enhance the atmosphere. Several musicians contributed to the project: Robbie Kuster on drums, Conner Molander on keyboards, Alex Francoeur on flute and saxophone, and Odessa Pagé on backing vocals.

"Seul au cinéma" will be released on September 19, and Bobby has never been more excited ahead of an album launch. To him, it feels like attending the premiere of his own film, as if he’s seeing himself play his own role. He wonders if his audience will follow him on this new journey.

Having long found his identity through his idols, Bobby Bazini now moves forward stripped down, without artifice, expressing himself in his own language.

Born in Mont-Laurier, Quebec, Bobby Bazini was raised on Americana, folk, and country, inspired early on by legends like Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. His debut single, “I Wonder,” quickly became a Canadian hit, and his first album, ‘’Better in Time’’, was certified Gold.
