Brick Bosso Released His New Solo Album “Brick”

Brick Bosso, known as the keyboardist for Ska ‘N’ Bones and MindFree sets out on his own with a solo project that features his greatest musical accomplishments so far, featuring lots of his electronic wizardy and guitar work.

The Los Angeles-based artist released the nine tracks as singles first, then as the album “Brick.” Following the release of his absurd “Dougie Digs Dirigibles,” Brick Bosso released the fun protest song, “Hug Your Hamster,” a kind of whimsical folk anthem featuring messages about the importance of love and caring for others. “I wrapped it up in with some absurd humour, a kind of tribute to my hero Robyn Hitchcock and even to his hero, Bob Dylan. It was a lot of fun. I’d like to do a remix with acoustic guitar featured in it.”

Not content with moralizing, Bosso followed that up with a darkwave flavoured tune, “The Spanish Twist.” Featuring a sound akin to 80s synthpop in its more serious forms, the tune features guitar and keys by Bosso and a wicked guitar solo by Eric Endo.

Bosso says the song is informed by his 1993 visit to a gothic cathedral in the city of Burgos, Spain as a young man. “Something strange was going on there,” he writes. “I’m still haunted by what might have been phantoms in the shadows.”

Brick continues: “The entirety of the album is me relishing the aftermath of having overcome the ghosts of the past.”

Other songs include a homage to classic monster movies, a trippy EDM song about being “Mellow As Jello,” a preview of Brick’s obituary, and a classic love song. The entirety of the set is a compelling and fun listen and is available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Bandcamp.
