 Today, bold and boundary-pushing Halifax indie pop artist, Burry, shares their newest single, No Hard Feelings. The catchy, fresh and vibrant track is an emotional breakup song about knowing a relationship is already coming to an end but choosing to stay present, enjoy what’s left and make the most of the situation. Rather than leaning into the sadness of a traditional breakup song, Burry turns that feeling on its head, blending energetic pop and hyperpop with punchy pop-punk and cheeky lyrics to create something immediate, playful, and unexpectedly uplifting. “Not every relationship ending has to be a tragedy. Sometimes you can recognize that something isn’t going to last, enjoy it for what it is, and walk away without resentment,” shares Burry. “No Hard Feelings could easily be a sad breakup song, but the production and attitude make it feel fun, playful and almost celebratory. It’s about anticipating heartbreak but refusing to let heartbreak control the mood.”

Recorded in Halifax at the home studio of producer, Adrian Morris (Neon Dreams), No Hard Feelings brought together Adrian’s pop and punk sensibilities with Burry’s hyperpop sound. The two worlds came together naturally, resulting in a track that feels modern, energetic and fresh while capturing the messy, bittersweet reality of letting go.

“Working with Adrian was especially exciting because we could play with the balance between something catchy and accessible while still making the production feel a little unpredictable and chaotic,” shares Burry. “I started writing No Hard Feelings while I was dating someone and already knew it probably wasn’t going to last. I wanted to capture that strange space where you’re still enjoying the relationship while preparing for the breakup, but with humour and the confidence of knowing when something just isn’t meant to be.”

Also accompanying the single release is a Mean Girls, Clueless, Fight Club and Bottoms inspired music video from director, Jeff Miller. The music video puts a darker, absurdist spin on early-2000’s high school comedies and is set in an exaggerated high school world. Burry creates an underground combat club to fight back against bullying, only for it to spiral out of control and turn against them, including at the hands of their teacher. There’s blood, hilarity, chaos and nostalgia, all wrapped up into an intentionally absurd and familiar high school movie scene but turned completely on its head.

“The song is about knowing something isn’t going to last and approaching a breakup with a playful, ‘No Hard Feelings’ attitude while the video takes that same cheeky energy and puts it into a completely different situation,” adds Burry. “Instead of making something emotionally heavy, we wanted to create a ridiculous world where everything keeps escalating and it’s about not taking yourself too seriously.”
