Cardiff dram-rock newcomers, Aurelia, release the grandiose single: 'Angelina'

Highly-strung, South Wales newcomers, Aurelia return with new single, their first for 2026, in the form of Angelina – OUT NOW. Imbued with scuffed glamour and intentional collapse into heavyweight choruses, the track is a grandiose, harmony-drenched spiral through romance, denial and emotional collapse. For the Cardiff-based five-piece it also marks the beginning of an upcoming, summer-long debut EP campaign.

Following BBC Introducing Wales support for debut singles Out Of Sight and Get Away, the Aurelia push further into the dramatic extremes of their self-styled dram-rock sound: hairsprayed alternative rock filtered through theatrical intensity and an undeniably razor-sharp pop sensibility.

Recorded in Newport with renowned producer Richard Jackson, whose credits include 60 Ft Dolls and Pretty Vicious, Angelina was built almost entirely on instinct. Entering the studio with little more than a demo and ambition, the band embraced an intentionally risky and experimental recording process. Once in the live room, they set about stacking harmonies, counter melodies and layered textures to courageous extremes.

Clocking in below three minutes, the track balances overwhelming sonic density with clear cut melodic immediacy. Inspired as much by the blurred emotional enormity of My Bloody Valentine as the rich vocal interplay of The Mamas & The Papas, Angelina was created to thrive in a dense sea of contrasts.

A two-handed vocal performance sits at the centre of the song, with the lead male vocal softened and stabilised by the presence of female backing. As the relationship at the heart of the song begins to fracture, the two overlap to blur the line between comfort and knowing self-deception. The result is a song that’s wide open, vitally offering listeners a canvas onto which they can project memories of their own relationships, regrets and unfinished conversations.

With further releases planned throughout summer and live shows expected later this year, Aurelia’s sense of coherence, rebirth and clarity of purpose gives them every chance of taking up position as the Welsh capital’s most emotionally combustible new band.
