Carl Craig's Ambient 'Meditations' LP Arrives on Digital Platforms for First Time

Today, legendary Detroit techno innovator Carl Craig reissues his ambient opus Meditations on his imprint Planet E Communications, available fully on digital platforms for the first time. Meditations will also be available as a limited edition C60 cassette, available exclusively through the Planet E webstore and Bandcamp

Originally conceived as a suite of beatless compositions, Meditations sits in a distinct space within Craig’s catalog, connecting his Detroit techno foundations with the more expansive, multidisciplinary work he’s explored throughout his career — from orchestral collaborations to large-scale installations.

The reissue follows a sustained period of broader cultural visibility around Craig’s work, including the Desire: The Carl Craig Story documentary and its accompanying soundtrack, which have spent the past two years circulating globally and reframing his legacy beyond the club context. This shift is further reflected in his All Black Vinyl series, which stations Craig as an active archivist of Black musical lineage, drawing from his personal collection to foreground authorship and history across genres.
