Chick Corea unveiled his brand new incarnation of the Elektric Band, the Elektric Band II.

It’s been 30 years since 27-time GRAMMY winner, keyboard virtuoso Chick Corea unveiled his brand new incarnation of the Elektric Band, the Elektric Band II. This 1993 outing featuring a brand-new lineup of guitarist Mike Miller, bassist Jimmy Earl, drummer Gary Novak, and saxophonist Eric Marienthal is set for release June 28th on Candid Records. The thirteen-track album will be available on CD, all streaming outlets and for the first time ever as a 2-disc vinyl LP.

Recorded at Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles and comprised primarily of first takes, PAINT THE WORLD is marked by the usual proficiency, spontaneity, impeccable execution, and jaw-dropping displays of chops that had characterized Corea’s previous five Elektric Band albums. With these specific players in mind, the album is notable for its “less is more” approach to Corea’s particular style of genre-bending composition.

The first single, the all-out burner “Final Frontier,” is out now. It marks the debut of this track outside of Japan and Europe and is the lone tune on the recording where the NEA Master plays synthesizer.

Written as an answer to “Got A Match” from 1986’s The Chick Corea Elektric Band album, it’s an up-tempo showcase for the players to stretch out and the kind of track that exemplifies the jazz fusion that Corea and his groups came to define.

Since its relaunch in 2021, Candid Records has issued several of Corea’s recordings, including Sardinia – a previously unreleased live recording nominated for a 2024 Best Classical Compendium GRAMMY, The Future is Now – a previously unreleased live recording with the classic iteration of the Elektric Band and The Complete Studio Albums 1986-1991 – the definitive box set with the first five original Elektric Band LP’s. Corea was also featured along with Chucho Valdés on Eliane Elias’ GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY Award winning piano duets album Mirror Mirror.
