Coilguns to release Everything We Love, We Destroy

COILGUNS TO RELEASE NEW STUDIO ALBUM EVERYTHING WE LOVE, WE DESTROY

Swiss band Coilguns are releasing their new studio album Everything We Love, We Destroy on 6 November via their own label Humus Records. The album was recorded by Scott Evans (Thrice, La Dispute, Neurosis) and mixed by Grammy-nominated Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Pixies, Royal Blood). The recording took place at their own headquarters, an old warehouse full of vintage equipment in the centre of La Chaux-de-Fonds. The band also collaborated with Ben Chisholm (Chelsea Wolfe, The Armed) on additional overdubs and production. The new single Everything We Love, We Destroy is out now.

Coilguns, formed in 2011, have their roots in the DIY hardcore scene and, over the years, have developed a unique blend of punk and ecstatic noise-rock. The band make - in their own words - urgent music for urgent times. In a world that is becoming increasingly opaque, complex and difficult to comprehend, the riffs on Everything We Love, We Destroy have never sounded so raw, and their lyrics have never been so direct. At the same time, they realise that what sounds self-evident to them may come across as strange or even uncomfortable to others. The band explaines: “However, we're conscious that what sounds normal to us may seem fucked up to others. As usual, we didn't bother fixing our weirdness - why would we? Our oddity barely equals the absurdity of the world we hear about in the news. Everything we believed in seems optional, everything we thought was sound is questioned. So while writing this album, when confronted with choices, we always opted for the simplest way and the boldest moves. This is our way to heal from chaos, add clarity to the equation and loudly fight for calm.” As Coilguns had been on tour all year round, they had no time to lose, and the world around them gave them little reason to do so either. Their minds and bodies were filled with new experiences and encounters with the many people they had got to know on the road over the past few years. “We’ve learned so much recently, we couldn’t wait.”

The new single is the title track of the album Everything We Love, We Destroy. “It’s been more than a decade now that our countries have agreed on a deal they’re not respecting. We wrote this paradoxical yet simple song to mark the tenth anniversary of the Paris Climate Accords. Why are we not able to act accordingly on our promises? Why are we always destroying what we love?” The video was made by Nathan Jucker, the brother of Coilguns singer Louis Jucker. “We like to hold on to the optimistic, almost utopian idea that, faced with the destruction modernity seems determined to complete, a little red thread of love might still be enough to stitch the pieces back together. It’s naïve, sure, but it helps us face reality without giving up. We hope it leaves people with a little hope and the energy to keep fighting.” Watch the video below.

Coilguns is known for their raw, uncompromising and euphoric live shows, tailor-made for dancing freaks and crowd-surfing mavericks. The band have toured the world and have played in the Benelux several times including Roadburn Festival, Soulcrusher, Desert fest and Obsidian Dust.
