Danish “one-man-indie-act” How to Lose Face aka singer, songwriter and multiinstrumentalist Peter Fjordbak releases his second album ‘DOOMESTICATED’ today, June 5th. Fjordbak himself described the album as a post-corona indie record written mainly under the special circumstances of being “confined” in one’s own home due to unique historical events, while observing the madness of the world. Saturated by strong, personal songwriting, a playful approach to music and lively, unpolished aesthetics, How to Lose Face poetically describes a plethora of personal dark feelings and concerns, from a past challenging time in human history.
Fjordbak states on the record:
“‘DOOMESTICATED’ is full of songs I wish I had never felt the need to write. The songwriting has often functioned as a pressure valve for the feeling of mental and physical overload and the lack of faith in a meaningful future. The record was primarily written during the Corona lockdown - a time when I felt I was gradually suffocating from constant unrest and disorder, and from far too many tasks to be solved at the same time in a cramped space. At the same time, the digital window to the world, in the absence of human inputs IRL, seemed to become more and more filled with crystal clear madness and obvious ethical complications that few people seemed to care about. However, the music also became the free space where new experiences and a sense of meaning could arise, which is why the musical expression itself often became a bit of a counterpoint to the message of the songs.”

How to Lose Face consists solely of songwriter, producer and musician Peter Fjordbak, who was an active contributor to the indie-scene of Aarhus some years ago - both as a musician, sound engineer and producer. But things change, and Fjordbak naturally transitioned into a state of fatherhood and for years, small children and work took up all his time. In recent years, Fjordbak has gradually found the inspiration and energy to create new music with his own take on authentic indie songs, which draws threads to both the past and the future. Under the stage name “How to Lose Face”, Fjordbak debuted as a solo artist with the album “Nice Tries” in 2020, followed by the EP “Boomers Can’t Be Choosers” a year later - an EP which shares many themes with the new album ‘DOOMESTICATED’.

‘DOOMESTICATED’ consists of songs about skeptical and worried observation of the digital ‘reality’. Here, the songwriting has functioned as a pressure valve for the feeling of hopelessness and despondency. The songs are inspired by, among other things, those in power, wokeism, echo chambers, artificial intelligence, climate change and a passive acceptance of the doom that gradually seems inevitable.

However, the music on ‘DOOMESTICATED’ is far from just melancholic and sad, but rather characterized by the fact that each song is a new playful exploration of the potential of music. The record is wrapped in an honest, playful sound, with spontaneity, energy, character and quirky details. This, combined with Fjordbak’s simultaneously imaginative and clinical reflections on the state of the world, makes “Doomesticated” both very human and uniquely personal.
