Danish rock n' rollers THE BLUE VAN release 8th studio album today

On their 8th studio album, Recording Club of 96, out today, the Danish rock ensemble The Blue Van bites back and takes on the great themes of our time. The album’s 12 tracks reflect the world we are facing in 2026. As Nina Simone once said, “Reflect the times”—a mantra the band has followed in the creation of their new album, which also marks their own 30-year history together.

The album spans everything from love songs to freedom (KYLO), to the fight against the growing misogyny among young men (Some Boys), to a celebration of the beautiful diversity that exists among people—and not least their right to freely showcase their gender identity (Beautiful Human)—as well as personal stories of loss, addiction, and love (Real Gone, Missed Calls, Hold Me).

At the same time, the album also reflects the story of four childhood friends who have been through thick and thin together. For them, making a record is not just about being in the studio and creating the best possible music. It is just as much about being together, joking, hanging out—and dreaming big. For this reason, the album was primarily created in one of Denmark’s most legendary studios, Farvemøllen, in Copenhagen’s North-West district, produced by their longtime friend and collaborator Mads Mølgaard Helbæk. A studio that since the 1960s has produced the defining artists of each era—from John Mogensen to Ulige Numre—and a studio that had to close its doors at the turn of the year as one of the last remaining sonic beacons in Danish music history.

On the creation of the album, lead singer Steffen Westmark says:

“We never just make a record. You’re always trying to hit closer to the center of the target each time you attempt to set that vision free that’s been rattling around in your head—from the very first shovel in the ground to the finished recording. Musically and lyrically, nothing is ever thrown together, and even though the rock label has become something of a watered-down concept, we always try to find the last variations and twists that hide in the corners. Lyrically in particular, I’ve always sought to hit myself—but certainly also anyone who felt like listening—with a well-written text that comments on the world we’re tangled up in.”
