Danish singer Nina Baun unfolds mid-life realizations on second single and title track from forthcoming EP ‘Status’

Danish artist Nina Baun is a versatile singer, songwriter, musician, and composer who moves with curiosity and openness within jazz, pop, and contemporary composition. After many years of being a creative solo artist, a period emerged with steady work, family life, and musical engagements in other people’s projects. But as time passed, her longing to create returned. This longing has now materialized into the EP ‘Status’, where Baun reflects on her life and connects past with present through five songs that explore themes such as identity, existence, time, and change.

On the EP, set for release on February 12th 2026, Baun has teamed up with drummer and producer Rune Lohse (New Kids, Blue Foundation, Horse Orchestra), who together with guitarist Mads Nørgaard (Lucky Lo, The Orgelheimers) and bassist Nicolai Claesson (Horse Orchestra, Billie and the Bell) form Baun’s new band. After the release of the first single 'Kan du huske', Baun now presents a more existential and reflective work that circles around identity, freedom, and mid-life realizations in life’s many movements. The new single and EP title track 'Status' is — as Baun herself describes it:

“A song from the eye of the storm. When one’s ‘self’ can feel dissolved in chaos made of obligations, roles, responsibility, planning, and logistics, and you can completely forget where you came from and where you were heading. There is a great loss of freedom in not being able to find space for yourself, your dreams, and your longings, but at the same time also a liberation in not being the center of your own life. It is a song from the middle of life, when you reach an age where you can look at the person ‘you have become,’ take stock, and reflect on whether you actually are where you would like to be.”

Nina Baun and her band can now also announce that they will play a release concert on February 8 at Taverna Centrale in Copenhagen. More concerts will be announced soon.

In 2011, NINA BAUN released her debut album Something Is Always Moving, followed in 2016 by her second album Human. Both records received positive reviews in Danish as well as international press. With these releases, Baun established herself as a progressive and experimental singer and songwriter, who naturally combined jazz, pop, and experimental composition into a personal whole.

Alongside, she remained musically active, as lead singer in Peter Danstrup’s various ensembles, as backing vocalist for vs DOOM, Oh Land, Andreas Odbjerg, and Turboweekend, on tour with Norwegian/American guitarist Lage Lund, and through collaborations with a wide range of musicians from the Danish jazz, improvised, and indie scenes.

After several years of pause as a creative artist, Nina Baun is now back with a strong and personal musical vision. Past and present unite on the new EP Status, which is the result of an intense process, where both old and new songs have been gathered into a modern, artistic whole in an experimental intersection between pop, jazz, and r&b.

Her new music is not only a further development of her earlier work, but also a revelation of the driving force that matters most to her right now: To create music that is personal and genuine. Status contains both Danish and English lyrics, and explores themes such as identity, existence, time, and change. First and foremost, the lyrics contain a reflection on Baun’s own journey – both as a human being and as an artist.
