Daydream Three releases Death Makes Fun of Us

In anticipation of the release of Stop Making Noise, Daydream Three, a project let by Italian musician Enzo Pepi, releases the music video for single "Death Makes Fun of Us.”

Stop Making Noise, the third album by Daydream Three was entirely composed by Enzo Pepi. The rhythm section of the band consists of two musicians of great experience and artistic maturity : Vincenzo Arisco on drums and Alessandro Formica on bass (the same rhythm section that has accompanied Pepi live since the first album).

Stop Making Noise was recorded in the summer of 2023 at Arsonica in Syracuse. As with the previous two albums, this one has sound engineer Carlo Barbagallo behind the mixer, who not only did the recording and mixing but also handled the mastering. The goal of this third album's production was to replicate the live sound that Enzo Pepi and the band produce. In order to do this, the album was recorded live in just two days, and it was done within the Arsonica concert hall in an attempt to capture the acoustics of a performance space. Carlo also made an effort to have as little involvement as possible in the recording and mixing in order to achieve a genuine, realistic sound.

Enzo Pepi describes "Death Makes Fun of Us” as follows: "The idea of writing a piece about death came to me after I had heard and read about several crime stories. One aspect of these stories had struck me that they had in common: the apparent absence of reason, of logic, behind those deaths. Those people were on their way to work, to go shopping, or to meet a friend; they had dreams, plans, but suddenly everything was swept away by a senseless death, devoid of logic. So I wanted to describe death as an evil, sadistic monster, taking life only for its own amusement".

The music video's director, Elaine Carmen Bonsangue, outlines her approach and perspective as follows. : "Death has always been spectacularized, in every age, and we go forward, already wearing death masks, for the moment when we must take the stage. In the video, I attempt to draw a simple analogy between death and art. Both represent an encounter with the unknown, a form of transformation. The artistic process can be seen as a small death, an orgasmic moment that oscillates between Eros and Thanatos, between creation and destruction. Like an interrupted coitus, art pauses on the brink of completion, leaving us suspended between the desire for immortality and the awareness of our mortality. This continuous tension is the artistic experience and life itself, making them deeply human...until we are mocked, like clowns, by a banana peel
