Declan Welsh Unveils Mock-umentary ft. "Limmy's Show" Star - Watch
Declan Welsh & The Decadent West proudly present a hilarious new mock-umentary to accompany their current single ‘How Does Your Love.’ WATCH HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qx0tLjNPM0&feature=youtu.be
Guest starring ‘Limmy’s Show’ comedy legend Paul McCole as seedy club owner and self proclaimed “Mogul Dreamweaver”: Alan Las Vegas, the extended 17-minute video adeptly spoofs those toe-curlingly tacky nightclub promotional videos we all know and loathe.
Scripted-by and cameoing Declan, the video takes us behind the scenes of ‘L.U.V.: South Lanarkshire’s Premier Club & Event Space’; a fictional provincial nightclub populated by a nauseatingly bigoted manager, narced-off bar staff, out-of-touch marketers, z-list celebs, wannabes, posers, and simply those who just want to get obliterated. Sound familiar?
Darkly comic, wincingly authentic and imbued with a hint of melancholia, the ‘How Does Your Love’ mock-umentary will resonate with anyone who has grown up on the hopelessly trashy nightlife scene of their local satellite town.
Speaking about making his scriptwriting debut for the film, Declan Welsh says: "The How Does video grew organically from this idea to have it set in a provincial nightclub into a full blown short film/tele episode. I started writing a script then these characters came together, in particular this sort of deluded wannabe mogul Alan las Vegas, who is played to perfection by Paul McCole. I love the way the script has been brought to life by the actors, and I still laugh at different lines every time. It’s about one man’s delusions of grandeur, and his hopes that he (just like a million other deluded folk on reality TV) will become rich and famous after his moment in the sun.”
Expressing his own enthusiasm of stepping into the slime-ridden shoes of Alan Las Vegas, Paul McCole adds:
"It was a joy to play such a dick to a brilliant song. I'd love to do another six episodes of that”.
Made with the award-winning Humble Film productions, the piece was shot in one day at the Downtown Nightclub in East Kilbride; the local haunt frequented by Declan and Ben of The Decadent West all too often in their formative years.
The mock-umentary fittingly accompanies the release of Declan Welsh & The Decadent West’s new single ‘How Does Your Love’; a disco-flecked indie belter that finds nuanced nostalgia in our regional nightlife scene. Inspired by Declan’s own experiences in East Kilbride, the track goes out to provincial nightclubs everywhere with their trade-markedly sticky floors, battered doors and DJ lost-causes. The backdrop of so many tragic, turbulent, and (sometimes) triumphant moments in our lives, ‘How Does Your Love’ salutes the unique experiences these local clubs provide; so often over-looked beyond the glare of commercial super clubs, but nonetheless an essential part of growing up in provincial Britain.
“This is a love letter to the power of provincial nightclubs.” adds Declan. “See, they get a lot of stick and yes I am not a huge fan of Downtown in East Kilbride. But see for 90% of folk, the f**king Berghain is a nightmare.”
’How Does Your Love’, swiftly follows the band’s blistering recent single ‘No Fun’, a scenester slaying anthem recently hailed by BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders as “one of my favourites...[I get the] same feelings from it as I do listening to I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor or Juicebox by The Strokes, a sure-fire Indie banger”.
Collectively, both tracks together set the scene for one of the year’s most anticipated albums: ‘Cheaply Bought, Expensively Sold’, the band’s debut LP which will hit the shelves on 18 October 2019 via the Modern Sky UK label.
New single ’How Does Your Love’, also arrives in the wake of the announcement of an extensive UK tour that will see the four piece appropriately taking to the stages of 15 of the finest underground clubs and music venues across the UK this Winter (full dates and details below). The upcoming tour will bookend a year of sold out shows across the UK and performances as diverse as those in Palestine (as part of a Glaswegian cultural exchange), The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, London Fashion Week, and their head-turning Billy Bragg approved appearance at Glastonbury 2019; a string of scintillating live sets that have solidified this band as one of Scotland’s most promising emerging talents and an unmissable live prospect.
