Disney+ debut trailer for original french production Oussekine
Today, Disney released the trailer for new Original French mini-series “Oussekine”. Based on a true story, “Oussekine” (4 x 52-minute) is set to premiere on Disney in 2022.
“With the production of French series we are willing to give a voice to recognized and talented artists on subjects that are dear to their hearts. New Original series “Oussekine” is driven by the vision of its author, Antoine Chevrollier, who 35 years after the fact, wanted to tell the past to enlighten our present.” said Pauline Dauvin, Vice President, Programming, Production and Acquisition, The Walt Disney Company France.
Commissioned under the Star brand, “Oussekine” looks back on the events of the night of December 5 to December 6 1986 that led to the death of Malik Oussekine – a story that had never been adapted until now. Through his family’s fight for justice, the series takes viewers on an immersive journey into the 1980s, exposing how the young man’s death impacted French society.
“Oussekine’s” director, creator and co-writer, Antoine Chevrollier (“Baron Noir”, “The Bureau”), said: “Oussekine wishes to tell the facts and restore them without prejudice. To tell this story thirty-five years after the event is also to show the story’s timeless themes –the fight for justice, the grieving process, and brotherly bonds in the face of life’s tragedies.”
Antoine Chevrollier assembled a remarkable team, both on and off screen, including writers Faïza Guène, Cédric Ido and Julien Lilti, and brothers Sacha and Evgueni Gualperine (“The undoing”, “By the Grace of God”, “Faute d’amour”) for music and sound design. Colombe Raby (“Mommy”, “It's Only the End of the World”) and Pascaline Chavanne (“8 femmes”, “Eté 85”) are in charge of recreating the historical reality of the period for the set and the costumes respectively.
Itinéraire Productions’ Anthony Lancret and Pierre Laugier are producing the series for Disney. They commented: “The first series on Malik Oussekine, the first series created by Antoine Chevrollier and the first French Original for Disney under the Star brand, this series is historical in more ways than one. Oussekine brings together exceptional talents for a project deeply rooted in French society, with universal resonance.”
