Don Kapot releases first single ‘Pentatonitis B’ from upcoming album

Pentatonitis B is the terrible disease of always inventing pentatonic melodies. It is also the first single of the album Hooligan to be released by Don Kapot via W.E.R.F. Records on 26th March 2021.

This piece is the perfect example of the current Don Kapot way of writing, with infuences of afrobeat clarly hearable. It has been composed collectively starting from improvisations by the three band members (Giotis Damianidis on bass, Viktor Perdieus on baritone saxophone and Jakob Warmenbol on drums).

Pentatonitis B begins in an unusual way with a vivid lyrical rise of the bass and the saxophone. Then it adopts a surprising structure, full of twists and turns, even abrupt breaks and a dramatic saxophone momentum as the bass drives a huge nail.

Roundness and stridence are there. The principle of composition in collective mode also entails a total commitment of the musicians in the game. Everyone is responsible for the entire process and can build a space of freedom to play their part. The clarity and the stripping of effects characteristic of the album, associated with a great rhythmic diversity (here in ternary mode inspired by the music of Gnawa) are found here too, to which you can add influences such as Deerhoof or King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard.
