Built around Roessler's unmistakable melodic bass work, understated vocals, and minimalist approach to songwriting, "You Will Feel My Pain" explores the moment when private struggles can no longer remain hidden.
"What happens when my inner turmoil leaks out to the rest of the world?" says Roessler. "You will, they all will feel my pain."
The track offers another compelling glimpse into Enigma, a record that continues the stark, intimate musical language Roessler first introduced on her acclaimed 2021 solo debut. Throughout the album, she transforms personal reflection into spacious, emotionally resonant compositions that rely on nuance, restraint, and atmosphere rather than excess.
"Enigma is the continuation of the narration of my life through song — honest, if over-dramatized statements about what is in those moments," Roessler explains. "Leaning into the raw feeling of it all. I feel very lucky to be able to share some new music with those who listen."
Co-produced with her brother Paul Roessler (Screamers), Enigma finds Kira further refining her singular artistic voice. The album also features contributions from Petra Haden, whose backing vocals add subtle texture to the record's spacious sonic landscape. While maintaining the minimalist foundation that has become a hallmark of her solo work, Enigma expands its emotional and tonal palette, revealing new dimensions in Roessler's songwriting.
Best known for her groundbreaking work in Black Flag, where her melodic and unconventional bass playing helped reshape the band's sound during its most experimental era, and for her long-running collaboration with Mike Watt in dos, Roessler has spent decades carving out a creative path entirely her own. Beyond music, she has also built an acclaimed career in film and television sound editing, with credits including Mad Max: Fury Road, Game of Thrones, and Project Hail Mary.
With "You Will Feel My Pain," Roessler once again demonstrates her ability to transform vulnerability into art, creating music that feels simultaneously personal and universal. As Enigma approaches its July release, the new single stands as one of the album's most direct and emotionally revealing statements.
Enigma will be available July 10 on vinyl, CD, and digital formats via Org Music.
