Florida Man unleash industrial-tinged post-hardcore/punk crossover “Dot Gov” single + video
Last month, Florida Man made their return after a dormant 5 years with grooved-out single “El Rey” and now follow it up with the snarling, anthemic “Dot Gov” and the announcement of their third album, Plastique, set for release on April 4th through The Ghost Is Clear Records. The Charleston, SC based post-hardcore/noise rock hybrid returns with a glossy collection of 9 songs mixed by The Pit Recording Studio's Taylor Young that transports the band's foundational sound of razor sharp riffs, fuzzy bass, and maniacal vocals into new territories of electronic experimentation, percussion ensembles, earworm chorus hooks, and more.
New single “Dot Gov” opens the record with a foreboding, glitching sample before tearing into a fierce, driving punk anthem with sci-fi lyrical themes forming images of AI destruction and the ashes of a futuristic authoritarian regime. Punchy rhythms and interwoven electronic layers surround Jim O'Connor’s gruff and feverish vocals, allowing space for a softer, percussive breather before building back into an enormous, half-time ending full of controlled chaos. The video for “Dot Gov” captures the band’s high-energy performance through a y2k era lens and interspersed retro operating system glitches and can be viewed HERE.
Originally formed in 2017, Florida Man debuted with their self-titled album, quickly garnering a following in the southeast. In 2019, the band released their buzzy sophomore album Tropical Depression, receiving praise from Revolver, NPR, BrooklynVegan and more. The band’s third album Plastique offers their most unique and aptly titled output yet.
