Gaeya releases debut EP 'Awakening'
Swedish world beat artist Gaeya has released her debut EP Awakening. Alongside the release she has also revealed a stunning video for the new song ‘Tide For The Change’.
‘Tide For The Change’ builds from a delicate piano introduction into a huge anthemic glacial pop gem, while Gaeya’s beautiful vocals look forward to a more positive, forward-thinking view in safeguarding the natural world. The latter is displayed in the brilliant self-made video created during lockdown.
Regarding the video Gaeya explains, "In these special times, a lot of things have changed. In many ways, it can feel heavy and challenging. But we always have the choice to make something creative out of every challenge in our life. It doesn’t have to cost you more than your imagination and creative force. To always be flexible and take challenges as opportunities to grow. I never before worked with video and filming, but last year made me want to learn, and with what I had been creative.
“This music video is a result of that. The song is written and performed by me and Anders Rane and the music video I filmed with an iPhone 10S and together with my friend Olof Berggren we edited the video. Thanks to Olof's great skill and our common creativity this is the result.”
‘Tide For The Change’ follows previous singles ‘Truth’ and ‘Contact’ from the Awakening EP. The EP music marries the sounds of the natural world with immersive sonic paintings; landscapes formed from analogue synths and deep-rooted Nordic frequencies which provide the backing for vocals that seek to inspire sustainability and focus for a better world.
Regarding the EP Gaeya says, “An awakening starts when we are open to see things from a higher perspective. It can mean that we sometimes need to elevate ourselves to see another view in life in order to gain the most growth.
“For an awakening to occur we first need contact within ourselves. We often push our own voice aside because our head told us something that seemed more logical, but led us off course. Then we might start to meet our truth or the truth. Sometimes it’s a relief and sometimes it's hurts. But it is from there we build the foundation and the visions for our reality and from there change will occur.
“Sometimes all we have to do is let go of things we so often think are important to keep. These things that we hoard have already run their course, you are ready for something new and more beautiful to come into your life and suddenly awakening occurs.”
Inline with her mindful musical messaging, Gaeya also hosts the podcast tellUs, which focuses on sharing new ideas and solutions for the on-going issues mankind is facing from the results of long term misuse of the planet, its resources and its beings.
Special guests who are industry leaders in their respective fields join Gaeya on each episode including the likes of Rebecka Le Moine (a biologist with a masters in ecology and nature conservation and member of Swedish Parliament) and Sofia Jessen (Countryside developer and Head Of Culture at Grästorps Council, Sweden).
The latest episode Life Will Heal The Earth, which focuses on mankind’s lost connection with nature. Gaeya is joined by Andris aka the bird whisperer, a man who spent more time in the forest than most western people ever do.
Gaeya has an unrelenting desire to affect change, underpinned by a profound respect for the planet and delivers this through the medium of beautifully captivating music.
