Gina Ete releases Prosopagnosia

This was the initial inspiration for the 2nd album – precisely named Prosopagnosia – by Swiss singer/songwriter GINA ÉTÉ. “I sometimes do not recognize peers, even though I know them for a while” states the musician. “Pondering about the classification we automatically make when recognizing somebody, I’ve asked myself, if prosopagnosia couldn’t be seen as a gift instead of a disorder? After all, the affected person is forced to repeatedly getting to know their vis-à-vis, rather than judging due to physical appearance.”

GINA ÉTÉ has already demonstrated in her debut album Erased By Thought (2021) that she consistently incorporates politics and society into her art. “All Or Nothing” tackles the climatic catastrophe, “Trauma” probes the psychological effects of seeking safety in Europe, and “Mauern,” from her debut EP Oak Tree, was a farewell to Donald Trump and other dictatorial regents.

Rhythmically elaborate, gender-fluid, influenced by Classical music and Jazz: her complex yet catchy Hybrid Pop has been compared to artists such as Juana Molina, Cat Power and Björk. No wonder that the trained violist is regularly asked by acts to arrange for string ensemble (Sophie Hunger, Panda Lux) or accompany them live.
