GØ Release New Single "Ivi á Tinganesi" From Upcoming Album ‘Ævir, amen’
Faroese sensation Jazz group GØ are unveiling today their final single "Ivi á Tinganesi" (English: Doubts On Tinganes), before releasing their highly anticipated album ‘Ævir, Amen’ on November 8th, via Tutl Records.
In line with the album's concept, which delves into the cultural and political dynamics of the Faroe Islands, "Ivi á Tinganesi" (Doubts On Tinganes), subtly carries socio-political undertones. Tinganes, located in Faroe’s capital, Tórshavn, is one of the oldest parliamentary sites in the world, dating back to the Viking era. It remains the centre of the Faroese government to this day. Its historical significance makes it not only a symbol of political authority but also a reminder of the important decisions made there throughout the centuries.
"Ivi á Tinganesi" (Doubts On Tinganes), draws on this powerful symbolism. Originally called "Doubt," the band was inspired to rename the song after a brainstorming session held at Tinganes itself, where the weight of the location added deeper layers to the song's meaning. The title reflects both personal and political uncertainties and the tangled path to decision making. With its deeply lyrical melody and exquisite horn arrangement, "Ivi á Tinganesi" is designed to tug at the heartstrings of even the most hardened listeners. What makes this new piece truly unique is its ability to evoke both melancholy and joy simultaneously.
When discussing the song, composer and frontman Ólavur Eyðunsson Gaard stated "I wanted to capture the dual emotions of beginning a new chapter in life - the bittersweet feeling of leaving something behind while being excited for what lies ahead".

In their upcoming album, GØ introduce a Cinematic Contemporary Jazz tapestry that delves into the poignant cultural and political dynamics of the Faroe Islands. With many crucial decisions about the islands currently being made through Denmark, the album reflects on the linguistic and cultural differences that fuel this debate, as well as the strong desire among many Faroese people to assert greater control over their own affairs.
After a somewhat DYI approach when producing their first album, this time around GØ have collaborated with producer Per Ingvald Højgaard Petersen (known for his work with Eivør, Lea Kampmann, EMP). This collaboration turned fruitful in elevating GØ’s sound, making it even more focused and unique. Additionally, the new album includes five-piece horn arrangements on several tracks, enriching the music with added complexity while preserving the integrity of the compositions.
