Grandmas House share new single "DOG" out now on Brace Yourself Records
Today, Bristol’s Grandmas House return with their first music of 2026 in brand new single ‘DOG’, out now on Brace Yourself Records. Emerging like a phoenix and birthing a new era for the band, ‘DOG’ serves up a slice of raspy, righteous rock, struck through with infinite poise - presenting some of the band’s most immediate choruses to date, deftly interwoven vocal harmonies and a sense of dynamics and tempo that’s second to none.
The track’s immediacy belies something darker, however. Written during a difficult period for the band, in which one of its members was beset with chronic illness for over two years, ‘DOG’ brings the intensity and emotion inherent to a health crisis to the fore - it’s vivid, cathartic and cut to the core with urgency. In doing so, it tackles all-too-familiar experiences of not being listened to by doctors and feelings - be they relating to illness, mental health, grief or trauma - that persist to follow you in everyday life.
Displaying a greater sense of vocal harmony and dynamic than heard before in the Grandmas House canon, ‘DOG’ is built upon deftly deployed, layered vocals that peak with three-part harmonies on the track’s earworm, surf-tinged choruses.
“‘DOG’ is about a feeling, written whilst struggling with a chronic illness that no professional could explain. We all have something that burdens us in life, be it mental health, chronic illness, grief, trauma or heartbreak. It’s always there, waiting around the corner,” offer the band.
Linking up with producer Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Perfume Genius, Yard Act) proved a revelatory experience for the band during a difficult time. They explain: “Working with Ali Chant on this in the studio was a cathartic experience. We’ve been playing this song live for a while now and it’s become a staple on our setlist, so we didn’t know how it was going to translate to a recorded track. Ali really saw our vision and captured the urgency of the song along with its dark harmonies and layered vocals.”
‘DOG’ arrives off the back of a hugely successful SXSW for the band and ahead of a busy spring of European touring with shows in Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium and France before a headline London show at The Grace on May 22nd and UK festival appearances including Dot to Dot, Bearded Theory and 2000 Trees. The band have toured prodigiously in recent years, opening for Big Special on a recent UK tour and for Arxx across Europe and supporting the likes of Idles, Pigsx7, Katy J Pearson, TV Priest and more, while they also recently sold-out their own headline tour of Germany and have hit up festivals including Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape, Sŵn, Green Man and more.
In recent years, Grandmas House have been busy honing their grunge and post-punk influenced sound. With an attack that is both relentless and melodic, the all-female band are a genuinely unique proposition - refusing to be pigeon holed, they are here to shake up perceptions with their intelligent, stylish and raucous take on rock music.
Citing influences from Nirvana to Porridge Radio and Idles to boygenius, the band have been developing their dynamic songwriting. The music moves between aggressive and heavy instrumentation and slower, more melodic passages, creating a powerful contrast. They use their voices to create layered harmonies and the result is a unique and expansive sound.
