Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity and Outernet London partner on the Big Build Adventure

Outernet, the most visited cultural attraction in the UK with more than 80 million visitors per year, today announces with Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity (GOSH Charity) the launch of the Big Build Adventure, marking the creation of a new world-leading Children’s Cancer Centre at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH). Children’s Cancer Centre - which is currently under construction - will be brought to life at Outernet, which boasts the most advanced screens in the world, reaching four-storeys high and spanning 23,000 square feet.

As part of GOSH Charity’s Big Build Adventure, visitors can engage with a giant virtual Paint Workshop wall, a host of building games and a construction site selfie opportunity with the chance to feature on the big screen. With the opportunity to ‘buy a brick’, anyone stopping by can help GOSH Charity raise vital funds for the Children’s Cancer Centre, helping to build the future of children’s cancer care.

The Paint Workshop screen will use motion-tracking cameras to turn paint gestures into actions, with virtual paint rollers, brushes, and splatter effects - allowing visitors to add splashes of colour to the virtual walls of the new Children’s Cancer Centre, illustrated by David Vallade and brought to life by Outernet Studios.

On a separate screen, a QR code will unlock access to an app packed with games and challenges that interact with the screen. Each activity is themed around the process of building and includes:

1.Toolbox Tidy' - Tidy up the messy toolbox by matching 3 or more of the same tools in a row, or horizontally before running out of time.

2.'Spot it. Build it. Beat it.' - Spot differences between the construction scenes on the screen and your phone, before the tea break ends.

3.'Site Selfie'. Choose from fun filters and share on social media – you could even be in with a chance of seeing your selfie on the 'employee of the day' wall.

GOSH Charity’s appeal to help build a new Children’s Cancer Centre at GOSH is the biggest in the charity’s history. The building project has reached a significant milestone with construction now underway, but there is still a long way to go before GOSH Charity reaches its ambitious fundraising target to make the centre a reality.

Despite advances in recent decades, cancer remains the biggest cause of death for children aged one to 14 in the UK. GOSH cares for children with the most complex and difficult to treat cancers in the UK with a long history of pioneering breakthroughs, but these advances have now outstripped the hospital’s current facilities. The Children’s Cancer Centre will serve as a beacon of innovation and hope for families across the UK, complete with state-of-the-art facilities, a hospital school and outdoor spaces, so children can not only receive essential medical care, but can also learn, play and grow.
