Haerdsmaelta sound the alarm with new single “The Kids Are Alt-Right” - released September 4th on Icons Creating Evil Art

For more than a decade, HAERDSMAELTA have occupied a space entirely their own within Sweden's heavier underground. Blending hardcore violence, industrial noise, punk filth and pitch-black humor, the band have built a cult following through sheer unpredictability and an unwavering commitment to creative chaos.

Following the consumption-fuelled assault of Enjoy The Feast and the apocalyptic rock swagger of Artificial Ignorance, Swedish underground force HAERDSMAELTA return with The Kids Are Alt-Right – a short, sharp and dangerously catchy punk detonation released September 4th via Icons Creating Evil Art.

Where its predecessors introduced different corners of the band’s forthcoming album HAERDROCK, the new single throws open yet another door. Guitars crash, rhythms lurch forward and an instantly memorable refrain turns social anxiety into something approaching a dance anthem. It is fast, direct and deceptively infectious – the sound of a threatened establishment locking the doors while the pressure outside continues to rise.

Behind the hook lies a song about power and the fear of losing it. The Kids Are Alt-Right takes aim at the panic that spreads whenever the oppressed begin to organise, speak back and demand their share. Parents fear their children, politicians fear the people they are meant to represent and the rich fear what might happen when the poor are no longer willing to remain silent. The band explains:

“‘The Kids Are Alt-Right’ is the fearful shout of a threatened power structure. It is the delusional urge to kill your own children simply to avoid being reminded of your mortality. The lyrics put a finger on the inevitable fear that arises when the oppressed mobilise and begin to talk back. Parents are scared of their own breed. Politicians are scared of those they were put in their positions to represent. The Romans became scared of the slaves. The rich are terrified of the mobilised poor.”

The song’s repeated declarations – “the kids are alt-right” and “the poor are untamed” – arrive not as straightforward statements, but as the increasingly frantic voice of those watching their authority slip away. Trolls emerge from the shadows, equality becomes a threat and the people who have taken everything begin locking their doors when those left behind finally come to reclaim it. Yet HAERDSMAELTA refuse to turn the track into a lecture. The darker and more uncomfortable its subject becomes, the harder the music swings.

- “As a song, it is a short and catchy punk-pop tune that could probably bring back the dead through its irresistible danceability alone. Goddammit, the kids are alt-right and the poor are untamed. We might as well dance to the sound of this injustice and rivalry.”

That collision of confrontation and movement sits at the heart of HAERDROCK. Across the forthcoming album, metal, hardcore and post-punk collide with industrial noise, rock’n’roll swing, progressive detours and the band’s characteristically dark sense of humour. Its songs confront greed, self-absorption, polarisation and technological alienation, capturing a society that continues to party while the world around it edges closer to collapse.The album campaign began with Enjoy The Feast, an attack on consumption, privilege and decay delivered through grinding riffs and post-punk tension. It was followed by Artificial Ignorance, a more laid-back trip down the road to ruin where AC/DC-style swagger collided with progressive art rock and epic church choirs. The Kids Are Alt-Right now strips the formula down to its most immediate form: a compact burst of political punk powered by a chorus designed to remain lodged in the listener’s head long after the final alarm has sounded.

Formed in Uppsala, HAERDSMAELTA have spent the past decade developing a sound that resists easy classification. Since emerging with Atom Heart Mother Fuckers in 2016, the band have expanded their world through The Whiter Album (2016), Gone in Grey (2018), All Alone in the Danger Zone (2021) and Ground Zero One Eight (2024).
