Helge Debut album 'Polar' out now!

Helge presents his new album Polar today at Iceland Airwaves. Helge recorded the new album in the studio of Sigur Rós, in his beloved Iceland. The music has become a meeting between Helge’s folk roots and the more spherical and abstract sounds from the Icelandic music scene. Polar has become a layered, bold and rich collection of tracks.

Helge Slikker has been following the route of composer since his graduation from the art academy in Antwerp. He composed for theater companies such as Oostpool and Matzer Theater Productions, but also for films such as Doris, Infiltrant and Kauwboy. For the latter he received a Golden Calf in 2012. He also worked with various bands and played shows all over the world. His first solo work was the album "The Days of Young Petty Davis." The successor entitled "Polar" will appear on November 8, 2019.

The music has become a meeting point between Helge’s folk roots and the atmospheric, abstract sounds of the Icelandic music scene. Together with producer Dave Menkehorst and Icelandic artists, Gudmundur Oskar Gudmundsson (Hjaltalín) and Örn Eldjárn (Valeria Pozzo) the album has become a layered, daring and rich collection of songs. The music has become a meeting point between Helge’s folk roots and the atmospheric, abstract sounds of the Icelandic music scene.

The Polar story is divided into 3 parts in which Helge takes you on a musical journey through Iceland. Chapter 1: 'Fundurinn (The Encounter)' - This part is dedicated to the first meeting with Iceland and saying goodbye to a past life. There is a kind of lightness in the music and an open mind to what is to come.

Chapter 2: 'Baráttan (The Fight)' - This is where the spiritual impact of the Icelandic landscape comes to the fore and its effect on the mind. How the emptiness stimulates the senses and causes you to think and feel things that you did not notice before.

Chapter 3: "Spegillinn (The Mirror)" - In this part the magical journey comes to an end. The songs feel like a complete whole and brings the experienced mind to rest. These three chapters are merged on the Polar album that will be released on November 8. The album will be presented on Friday 8 November during the leading Iceland Airwaves showcase festival in Reykjavik. The perfect place and possibility to celebrate the release of Polar!
