Highasakite new album "Mother" out now!

The fifth album from Norwegian pop sensations Highasakite is a remarkable thing – tender in its emotions yet epic in scope, a powerful synthesis of cool pop, entrancing Berlin techno and cutting-edge Scandi production. Its themes are universal – the emotional arc of a relationship, the cycle of love, doubt and hope – but its attitude is unique: "Mother" is full of cosmic vibrations, colour, and a healthy appetite for the macabre.

"Mother" is an album about birth and death, the cycle of renewal and destruction, explains Håvik, who has recently given birth to her second child. “The mother I’m writing about is more like a tarantula, the mothership, the destroyer and creator,” she says: “That’s what mother is to me”.

"Mother" features frequent forays into the kind of music that can really take a hold over you physically, get your synapses firing, lock you into a trance state. Some of these tracks are like being caught in Berlin’s Berghain on a Saturday night – but others are breath-gentle pleas to a loved one.

Highasakite, who have topped the Norwegian pop charts since their second album Silent Treatment in 2014, are a new and completely revitalised band. It says everything about the ambition of a well-loved band who are ready to take on a bigger, bolder challenge: "Mother" will be accompanied by a major live show, which will tour Europe in April (with headline shows in London and Berlin), aiming to bring theatricality back to the pop show with three acts – birth, destruction and renewal – and specially designed avatars of the band.

“We needed to expand the concept of the album,” says Håvik. “I needed a bigger project to get back my ambitions and inspirations. "Mother" is bigger than an album. I just want to prove to everyone that we can do whatever we want.”

Highasakite have over 200 million streams on Spotify to date, have earned multiple Norwegian Grammy Awards (Spellemannprisen) and widespread acclaim from the likes of Pitchfork, NME, MOJO, The Guardian, Vogue and Triple J.
