Horn releases "Daudswiärk"

"Daudswiärk" marks Horn's 10th studio album, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Black Metal project. "Daudswiärk," translating to "Work of Death" from the Low German dialect once prevalent in the Münsterland region, represents a temporal retreat from the experimental, folk-influenced sounds of the preceding album "Verzet." It returns to fundamental Metal instrumentation, delivering a focused, rapid, and concise album without intros, outros, or interludes. This album distinguishes itself with a notably somber tone, diverging from Horn's recent, more upbeat works, and features blast beats, dystopian synths, and a significant shift towards extreme vocals over clean ones.

For the first time in the project's history, "Daudswiärk" incorporates passages in Low German dialects from Westphalia, specifically "Westfäölsk" and "Mönsterlänner Platt," drawing from diverse historical sources like dictionaries, poems, and short prose. The album delves into rural life in Westphalia around the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, exploring themes of agriculture, hunger, illness, and death, while also acknowledging advancements in medicine during that era.

The album's artwork, a linocut by Timon Kokott, also from Westphalia, portrays a stark landscape of futility against an indomitable will to survive.

"Daudswiärk" is slated for release on vinyl and digipack in May 2024, as a collaboration between Horn and Northern Silence Productions.

The output was produced by M. Stock (Empyrium/The Vision Bleak/Sun of the Sleepless) at the renowned "Studio E2" and features a rough and dense sound heavily favoring the bass guitar and drum work.
