Hurts & Purple Disco Machine releases "Wonderful Life 25"

Purple Disco Machine reimagines the Hurts classic ‘Wonderful Life’, out May 23rd, 2025

To mark the 15th anniversary of their renowned debut record ‘Happiness’, British duo Hurts have enlisted dance music maestro Purple Disco Machine to rework their breakout hit ‘Wonderful Life’. Fresh off the success of his career-defining third studio album ‘Paradise’, Purple Disco Machine brings his signature Nu-disco energy to a classic, bridging the dancefloor and crossover appeal once again. Originally released in 2010, the iconic single propelled Hurts to worldwide success, earning 17 Platinum certifications, reaching Top 10 across Europe and surpassing 150 million streams across platforms. A defining anthem of the 2010s, the release’s cultural impact cannot be overstated. As recently as last year, German rapper Luciano sampled the track for a #1 streaming hit in Germany, further proving its timeless appeal.

The new version pairs Hurts frontman Theo Hutchcraft’s freshly recorded vocals with Purple Disco Machine’s unmistakable 80s-tinged disco production, injecting a sleek, dancefloor-ready flair. The German producer’s signature funk-fuelled bassline doesn’t overshadow the glacial synth-pop tones of the original, but instead elevates them with each beat. An atmospheric breakdown toward the end builds into a euphoric finale, perfectly embodying the spirit of ‘Wonderful Life’ and delivering the track’s emotional peak.

Purple Disco Machine is no stranger to reinventing classics for the dancefloor, though this collaboration carries a more personal twist. He said: “This song holds a special place for me - it was one of my wife’s favorites back in the day, so I’ve heard it countless times. Approaching such a classic wasn’t easy. I wanted to honor the original while adding my own touch. Thankfully, Theo and Adam loved the version, and I’m happy it’s finally out in the world.”

Further celebrating 15 years of ‘Happiness’, Hurts will be playing the album in full at a pair of headline shows at the O2 Academy Brixton in London on 22nd May and Berlin’s Tempodrom on 24th May. The album set the foundation for the duo’s subsequent career, reaching #4 in the UK and earning 2x Platinum certifications in both Germany and Poland. The band followed with four more critically acclaimed albums, with the most recent being 2020’s ‘Faith’.

Purple Disco Machine has long mastered the art of reworking classics for the club and beyond. His affinity for blending a retro-inspired sound with modern pop sensibilities has seen him trusted by the likes of Britney Spears, Elton John, Kylie Minogue, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, Diana Ross, and Lizzo. His crossover appeal has earned him a Grammy Award for his remix of Lizzo’s global smash ‘About Damn Time’, while his growing list of radio hits and high-profile collaborations have seen him earn multiple-Platinum certifications on songs such as ‘Hypnotized’, ‘In The Dark’, and ‘Substitution’. For the rest of 2025, he is set to take his disco groove to dancefloors across the globe with dates in the United States, Germany, Belgium, Spain, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Malta, and Finland.
