Kassie Krut — the newly-minted project of Kasra Kurt, Eve Alpert (former members of Philadelphia math-rock institution Palm), and Matt Anderegg (Mothers, Body Meat) — are thrilled to announce their signing to Fire Talk Records (Mandy, Indiana, Strange Ranger, Wombo). In conjunction, Kassie Krut unveil their new single, “Reckless,” alongside a striking video directed by Guy Kozak.

“Reckless” is the brazen and instant theme song for Kassie Krut. “K / A / S / S / I / E / K / R / U / T / T / T / T,” Alpert sing-spells, almost tauntingly, over a chunky drum machine peppered with serrated effects. Retaining the fanged snarl of prior work, “Reckless” outlines sugary melodies with visceral electronic flourishes, satirizing the lexicon of pop egoism while acknowledging its effective power. The result resembles a frantic transmission received from a rickety spaceship.

Kozak’s “Reckless” video, filmed in part at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, harnesses Kassie Krut’s ultramodern and deeply primal energy. Collaging rehearsal space footage, notebook scribbles and found letters sourced around New York City, the “Reckless” video captures the frenetic playfulness inherent to Kassie Krut’s vision. “The idea of a museum visit came early on, as did the idea of the name spelled out with hands and signage," Kozak says of the video. "I like that the track works as a sort of introduction to the band, and I wanted the video to work in a similar way. I love this song!”

Of "Reckless," Kassie Krut add: "'Reckless' is an exercise in restraint. We challenged ourselves to write a song with one bass note, one drum beat and just a couple simple chords. Sometimes we experience self-doubt so it was fun to create a tougher version of ourselves - someone who’s fast and mean - as well as playing w the misconception that Kassie is an individual and not a band. Also our project name is a little strange so we took the opportunity to spell it out for the listener."

Kassie Krut began as a solo act, its name impishly garbling that of its maker, Kasra Kurt, who otherwise served as a guitarist and vocalist in Palm. While the Philadelphia-based four-piece undertook bracing new adventures in guitar music, the side project was a venue for Kurt to indulge his taste for electronics and set stray ideas to simmer. When Palm called it quits in 2023, after ten years and three acclaimed albums, Kurt decamped to New York with Eve Alpert, the band’s co-guitarist/vocalist, and Matt Anderegg, who produced Palm’s final record. Playing together, the longtime friends and collaborators christened a new, three-headed incarnation of Kassie Krut.

Across the trio’s work with prior groups, they’ve graced festival lineups, pushed the boundaries of label rosters, and garnered critical acclaim for their thrilling sonic experiments. Since solidifying their new form, Kassie Krut have steadily cultivated intrigue as an emerging underground supergroup. They’ve performed alongside Cindy Lee, Chanel Beads, Fcukers, Model/Actriz and more, taken part in scene-defining shows —”Everyone bopped to Kassie Krut’s industrial, electronic set” (PAPER) — and remixed tracks for Water From Your Eyes and Pedazo de Carne con Ojo. In their new formation, Kassie Krut settle into a commanding partnership fit for muddy raves, basement punk spaces, and festival stages alike.

Following a kinetic performance at Philadelphia’s Making Time Festival, Kassie Krut will perform at New York’s TV EYE with Safe Mind (Boy Harsher’s Gus Muller and LUCY / Cooper B Handy) this Friday, before embarking on a run of dates opening for Spirit of the Beehive.
