Iris Caltwait releases new album 'Again, for the first time' out TODAY via 777 Music

Norwegian alt-pop auteur Iris Caltwait today releases her extraordinary new album 'Again, for the first time', out now via 777 Music. To celebrate the album release, Iris Caltwait plays a London headline next week (12 November) before playing select EU and Norwegian headline dates in 2026.

A vivid, slow-burning, shape-shifting odyssey through grief, rage and renewal, the album features immersive, spacious production from Askjell (Sigrid, Aurora) and contributions from Vetle Junker, Jimi Somewhere, Milo Orchis, Lauritz Christiansen and more.

Across its sixteen tracks and 46 minute runtime, Iris Caltwait (real name Vilde Iris Hartveit Kolltveit) delivers a masterstroke of nuanced pop and emotional excavation. Written between Bergen, Oslo, Copenhagen and Gothenburg in borrowed living rooms and countryside retreats, the album captures the quiet reckoning that follows rupture, tracing the process of rebuilding herself, piece by piece - drawing influence from artists like Mitski, Adrianne Lenker, and Saya Gray.

“A lot of the songs are about trying to reconnect to the child I was and to the person I want to be,” Iris says. “When I was little, I wasn’t afraid to get angry. Now I’ve had to relearn getting mad, and reconnect with indignation.”

From the elegant indignation of ‘Serpentine’ to the grief of ‘Dragonfly’ - a song inspired by the loss of her grandmother, with its swelling harmonies mirroring spontaneous bursts of feeling, Iris navigates transformation with both vulnerability and defiance.

'rodeo' - built on soft, swelling production is a song about continuing to believe in love, even when it feels naive to do so, and tracks like 'i'm in the corner, alone' and ‘these are hard times (Say the Words!)’ trace her journey through depression and muted emotion.

The buoyant, skinny-dipping inspired ‘Spring Rush (a hot platonic subatomic crush)’ celebrates the rush of rediscovered euphoria, while the record’s closing moment, ‘Alchemy (Living Is Not For The Heart)’, turns personal pain into catharsis; a final act of transformation that mirrors the album’s title - as Iris explains: "I associated the art of alchemy with my own process and struggles. Sometimes it feels like I'm trying to perform a magic trick, changing the way my brain is wired. I'm going over the same material and feelings over and over, expecting a new result..."

With each passing song, Iris Caltwait peels back a new layer of the album’s emotional architecture, revealing its full sonic complexity. At its core, 'Again, for the first time' is a meditation on resilience and emotional renewal, where Iris’s stark lyricism meets Askjell’s delicate, atmospheric production to create a world in which electronic minimalism meets human warmth.

Previously releasing under the moniker iris - Iris Caltwait's re-emergence is not a reinvention, but a reclamation - of her voice, and of herself. This is music for the in-between: the quiet reckoning that follows rupture, the spring that arrives too brightly after a long emotional winter. It’s not about resolution, but resilience. Not about arriving, but returning, again, for the first time.

“Every beautiful thing felt too big to hold,” Iris says. “That being alive is both a horror and a gift. This album is me trying to understand that.”
