J Bernardt - new single 'Wicked Streets'

Wicked Streets’ is a new track from multi-instrumentalist J.Bernardt, the nom de plume and side project of Jinte Deprez of Balthazar. Following on the heels of last year's 'Calm Down', one of Spotify UK’s Top 10 Viral Tracks, and January’s 'The Other Man', ‘Wicked Streets’ is taken from J.Bernardt’s forthcoming debut album. Discussing the single, Deprez says, “’Wicked Streets’ is one of the first songs written for the album. Working at home, still in search for what the project should be, I got inspired by my girlfriend stepping out of the shower humming a tune which evolved into the melody. These Streets are a state of mind where your principles and moralities are dropped, but also your control over things. Something we occasionally all yearn for, but also fear for.”

Treading new musical ground, Deprez has emerged from his home studio with an altogether different sound, a cornucopia of evocative synth beats drawn from a range of influences; be it his father’s love of Kraftwerk or the pop sensibilities of his own musical discoveries.

Shorn of band vagaries, Deprez is there to stand on its own merits, existing in an altogether different locale, and seductive grooves enveloped in warm soulful vocals permeate throughout. Written and recorded at home in Ghent, multi-instrumentalist Deprez has seen the entire project evolve from experimenting with a synth, armed with a DIY aesthetic to a collection of tracks that will provide the basis for J.Bernardt’s debut album, slated for release in 2017.
